Found this site whilst Researching my brothers wife`s family tree - Charlton.  Loads of info on here guys   ;D
The father of my brothers wife is one John Charlton 1926-1996, son of Henry Garnet Charlton. Rosemary (my brothers wife) has loaned me a massive file (one of many she has) which starts with one George Charlton (can`t find any birth register).
Thought I`d say thanks for all the info on here.

Well done all, marvellous amount of info there
Can I butt in and ask if anyone has any info on an Edward Charlton possible born about 1730-40. I have a Ruth Charlton born c1762. Several of her children give her as "native of Ryton, daughter of Edward Charlton" He is proving very elusive!

Thanks John (apologies for the delay the Olympics keep getting in the way  :) ) will definately bear those in mind.
Sorry though I should have been more specific, It's Ruth Charlton's birth or baptism I can't find despite having her father's name from her children's baptisms. I believe Ruth Charlton was born between 1760-1775. Her death cert in 1840 gives her age as 78 but there may have been another child born to her and her husband (Abraham Sharp) in 1815, which would make her too old to bear another child at 53
Thanks again Sylvia

Hi Ladybird,

I have a Ruth Charlton born c1871 on my family tree who was born at Riding Mill, Nr. Broomhaugh, Northumberland and Baptised in 1871 at St. Andrew's Church, Bywell, Northumberland.  Her parents however, were George & Margaret. In 1881 when Ruth was 10yrs old, she was living with her parents and siblings at Station Cottages, Corbridge.

Could this be the Ruth you are looking for?

Kind regards,

Hi Doric
That's interesting, I wonder???
Who did yours marry and do you have any children's names please?
I wonder if it could be George Edward Charlton ??? Do you know what George did for a living because the only other time I've seen the grandfather mentioned in a child's baptism was a man with some standing in the community

Hi Sylvia,  no problem - it was worth a mention.  Actually most of my Charltons were born and lived around the Broomhaugh, Newburn and Ryton areas.
