John Cuthbertson Edgar 1866c Ireland?
« on: Sunday 19 November 06 11:59 GMT (UK) »
I have only recently found out that John Cuthbertson Edgar comes from Ireland? Found this information hidden in 1891 census for Paisley, Renfrew. Born about 1866 his parents being a John Cuthbertson Edgar/Ann Jane Williamson. I would appreciate any help in locating where he came from,I know that he stayed in Scotland until his death but have no information about his earlier life, hope someone can help with this.

Thanks
Don Edgar

Don- think I found him on IGI!

John Edgar Clarke Cuthbertson
born 3 Apr.1868 Co.Dublin, Ireland
son of John Edgar Cuthbertson and Ann Jane Williamson

Couldn't find any siblings but at least this gives some clues.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Now I understand how difficult it has been to trace the Edgar family, they
keep mixing their surname with their middle names, they did the same
in the 1891 census in Renfrew, Scotland. The only other bit of information
I have is that John and his father were both employed as Railway Wagon
Examiner/Inspectors. I would like to thank you very much for your help, I have
been struggling for years to find anything about my earlier Edgar's, at least
now I know where to look. thanks again.

Yours

Don- can see where it's been difficult to fins them if the 'surname' keeps changing.
I searched IGI under Edgar and nothing came up and then thought with "two" surnames perhaps he was born Cuthbertson and adopted by Edgar family.... and there they were.
Now that you have someone to research in Ireland you will find how difficult it can be.
If John and his father worked in connection with railways they could have moved about quite a bit. A branch of my husband's family moved from Londonderry City, Co. Londonderry to Dundalk, Co.Louth that way with a few of them in Co.Fermanagh it seems.
Good luck.

Hi

I do the local history in Marino, and there was a John Cuthberston,  (Dublin Third Engineer) aged 27 (1945) from Turlough Gardens was awarded a Vellum for bravery by the  Royal Humane Society for a saving the life of a ship’s fitter after a  petrol tank  exploded  on their vessel in 1944. I have a webpage up, and a section in the Memories Section vid. Ref39
