Kirk's of West Ashby
« on: Saturday 18 November 06 14:27 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to trace my ancestors. I have my GG Grandfather Jason Kirk being born in 1858 in West Ashby. I have his mother being Mary A ? . I cannot find the father ? I think he may have died around 1850 ish ? Can anyone help with going back a bit further in time on the Kirk side ?

Thanks a lot

Ian

There was a William KIRK (34) buried at West Ashby 24 April 1860.

A possible marriage, given that the eldest child was aged 9 in 1861-

Marriages Jun 1851

Cole    James Rutland         Horncastle    14   791
Duddles    Anthony         Horncastle    14   791

William KIRK 24 West Ashby was a Farm Servant (Waggoner) in High Toynton in 1851.

William was probably bap 27 May 1827 West Ashby, son of Joseph and Frances, but was not at home in 1841

I am not able to make out when you posted this! I am the great great grandson of John Kirk, who was the brother of William who was Jason Kirk's father. Have you managed to sort it all out? I may have it sorted! although some of what I have on my file is verging on conjecture. William's mother was Frances. According to the IGI John's mother was Mary - I am inclined to believe that Frances and Mary and the later Frances (because she re-emerges for subsequent Kirk brood) are one and the same. Frances Cordy married Joseph Kirk at Horsington in 1821 - the base camp for Cordys was at Bardney and in later censuses Frances Kirk gives Bardney as her birthplace. Frances Kirk remarried after Joseph's death in 1859 to William Coggle (1862) and died at Woodhall in 1889. Confused? oromai at xtra dot co dot nz
