Charles Stelfox
« on: Friday 17 November 06 20:07 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone have access to 1901 census as I'm looking for the parents of Charles Stelfox born 1898 registered in West Derby March qtr.
He died in WW1 aged 18.
Probably living in the Everton/Walton areas of Liverpool or maybe Bootle.

If he died in ww1 then his next-of-kin should be on the cwgc site.

www.cwgc.org

The 1901 index is still free-to-view at Ancestry www.ancestry.co.uk

I'd also like to know how you "know" that that particular Charles  died in WW1?  The death reg in 1898 looks far more likely to be his demise.

Pauline,

If you look on the commonwealth ward graves site it states his date of death but no next of kin.
I think it was freebmd that stated a Charles Stelfox had been born in L'pool area 1898. I presumed that this was the Liverpool Charles as he would have been 18 years old in 1916.

Alex.

Yet other evidence indicates that the 1898 birth is probably NOT the WW1 death.
Can we consider this closed?

Whether Charles was born 1898 or not I would still like to find his parents never the less.  So case is not closed at all.
May I also state Pauline that i find your responses to my questions quite rude.  I visit this site for help with my research not to be patronised.

Then you'll just have to buy the birth certificate or find a baptism, 'cause on the face of it, he'd been dead three years by the 1901 census.

I also find it incredibly inconsiderate of anybody to put in a request without the least effort to ensure that the person is likely to be alive.

Volunteer help shouldn't be wasted on wild goose chases. If you find another 1897/1898 birth to account for the 1898 death, then it's worth  searching census; not otherwise.

There's no obvious Charles Stelfox arounf 1898 in the 1901 indexes. Maybe he claimed, as many did, to be older than he really was.

FreeBMD has a couple of candidates, the most likely one in Islington in 1902.
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.
