COLEMAN FAMILY AND MARRIAGE
« on: Thursday 16 November 06 13:42 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, I am looking for the parents of James Coleman born 1783 Uckfield (Brede) he was married to Elizabeth(?) born 1788 Icklesham and they are on the 1841 census and others with these children
Elizabeth 1826 Icklesham, Richard 1825 Icklesham,(who marries an Elizabeth) Hannah 1827 Icklesham and Philladelphia 1832. What I am interesed in finding is dates of marriages for these two men, father and son. And Also is it possible to go back further to James' father who was supposed to be John Coleman who married a Sarah Stone
in 1777 Sussex. They are supposed to link up with the Coleman family of Brede but so far I can't find that missing link.
Thanks to all who have helped me in the past, hoping you can do it again as my tree has grown so much since first discovering this site. Regards Gidget

Hi Gidget37,

John Coleman married Sarah Stone 18 Nov. 1777 in Brede Parish Church.

James Coleman married Elizabeth Marshall 12 May 1811 in Icklesham Church.

                  Hope this might help.

Thank you so much, I had a feeling it may have been Elizabeth Marshall when I saw her name with child Sarah the other day. Thanks for the Sarah Stone one as well.
Is there anyone can find children for the John Coleman and Sarah Stone marriage please?
Thanks again Gidget

we try to be as helpful as possible - why sit on info in your databases when someone else is scratching their heads to find it.

Good luck with future research

Hello again Chris, The Broad Oak are all mine thank you. Do you have a death for Charles Coleman born 1832 Beckley. He was at Plough Inn Westfield 1861 Census with his wife Elizabeth born 1829 Fletching, Cuckfield
on that one  On the 1871 Census he was a journeyman miller, widowed with my gr grandmother Clara aged 6 yrs.So Elizabeth had died between 1865 and 1871. Then in 1881 Clara ( Clare H) aged 15 is at Stonelink Farm with Uncle William born 1829 Beckley and Aunt Frances Mary nee Noakes. So Charles had died between 1871 and 1881. The Family also had Chitcombe farm until after Carlos and Horace died when it was sold.
It has been a tricky family to sort out  because every son had a son called William in just about every generation. Not to mention John and James and even Richard and Edward. Don't know if they were keen on Royalty or religious.
Any help you can give on death dates and places appreciated. Regards Gidget

Have you tried looking for wills?   If they owned a farm they will probably have left wills and they can be very helpful in sorting out familes with the same names in each generation.   Do you realise that all BMDs are free to search on ancestry?   If they don't turn up on Chris' database then you can look for the post 1837 ones there.  Do choose the complete version though, not the FreeBMD one which is not complete.  Though it might be worth checking that to start with in case they have been transcribed already.
