Hi Jane,

Had a look through the 1841 census at the library - found Claypit St - no sign of the farm - spent a good hour looking at the fisches until I came across the following 2 quite near each other.

Grindley Brook, Whitchurch
Henry Elliott - 30 - Joyner[their spelling!!] No [to born in county]
Ann       "        25                                        N
William   "        9                                          Y
Mary      "        1 month                                Y

Oxford Cariage??? Whitchurch

Thomas Elliott  30   Check Factor[???] No
Mary          "      20                               No

Last one was not too clear on 903/11-14 fisch

Couldn't find Ellen, wonder if with grandparents - did not have time to look through all local villiages - will try again.

Not sure if first one is yours - but looks similar!!
Hope it helps - not hinders!!

Cheers

Keith

Sorry didn't get back to you earlier Keith, PC up the spout!!!

Thanks for the info and for your time.

The info is very interesting, both my great, great  grandparents seem to want to make it as hard as possible to find out anything about them!!!

Your time is appreciated

Regards Jane

HI Keith

Just going to squeeze you for a little bit more info!!!

I think the Elliot family I am looking for is the the one at Grindley Brook, I just want to know is that a district of Whitchurch or just the name of the path/route the canal follows.

If it is a district would you know of a central church where baptism etc would have been held. I notice on the IGI records it doesn't give the location of the baptism. At least when Ellen had kids of her own she picked the biggest church she could find, Manchester Cathedral.
I went once as a kid if I'd known my Great great grandmother had some of her children baptised there I might have taken a bit more notice!!

Regards  Jane

Hi Jane,

Grindley Brook is a tiny area just outside Whitchurch - which as you say the canal passes through - it did have some wharfs etc as well as now a pub - Horse and Jockey - which I think is fairly old.

The nearest church would be St Alkmunds in Whitchurch.

The baptismal records are at Whitchurch Library - do I sense another request??!! ;D ;D

Cheers

seeing as you offered!!!

Do Baptism records have mother maiden name on them or age?

I Have drawn a blank with the McBride side of the family, and My other half whos surname is Wesley has traced his family back to the year dot!!!

So my next port of call it to try and find out about Ellen's parent Henry and Anne. I notice from the census info you found that Anne was not from Shropshire, so thats another part of the country (world!!) my ancestors are from!!

Thanks for your time once again!!!

Jane ;D

Hi Jane,

It seems the details very across the country, but the local ones only have for example:

January 1st 1800 - John son of Fred and Mary Smith

So not to much extra information available - it does confirm parents names then you can look for their marriage sometime before - oppps what have I said!!

Cheers

Thats where the problem lies... From what I know there eldest recorded child was William 1831, so maybe a little before then.

If you do find anything could you send me the reference so I can obtain a copy from the library( if they allow that for parish records).

I'll leave you in peace now ;)
