Hi Irene,

Thanks for the reply re Edward!!

Yes I saw afterwards that Elizabeth was a bit young for kids!!
I did start a couple a years before -1848 I think - do you want me to have another go earlier?
I did ask if that was all the parish records they had and got an abrupt YES!
Will try to find out where the Norton & Adderley ones are - but think I will phone!
They have the 1841 and 1901 for Whitchurch and close by - ie Whixall, Press and Tilstock.

I have only just moved into Whitchurch so not sure where the other libraries are - but will find out  - may be able to go as Adderely and Norton are not far.

Cheers

Keith

Hello Keith,
I have a connection with Whitchurch in that my 2 x Gt grandmother came from the area and was married in the parish church of Whitchurch in June 1869 to my 2 x gt grandfather Robert Mann (born North Shields). Her name was Mary Ellen Sutton and her father was William Sutton. She and Robert moved to Northumberland where they remained for the rest of their lives. In later census she has registered her place of birth as either Marbury (1871) or Norbury (1881). I think these places are just over the border in Cheshire (?). I do not have a specific request of you other than if you do come across any instances of Suttons in local records or graveyards I would be pleased and grateful for the information. I know William (A sawyer) was married to Frances and they lived in St Marys St Whitchurch in the 1871 & 1881 census. Many thanks.
Pete :)

Will try to remember your Sutton connection Pete  ;)

Back to your first post Irene! - might get chance to go to Shrewsbury next week - good excuse to make a day of it as my brother is going into hospital there for an operation on Thursday - will let you know.

Hi sandraanne,

Will see what I can find - some are not that readable - but will have a look when the wind drops!!

Regarding the name  Whitchurch :

Whitchurch takes its name from a 14th century church built of white stone and dedicated to St. Alkmund. The church completely collapsed in 1711, and was replaced by the present church with the same dedication

Cheers

Hi Keith,  Irene here!!  When you are wandering around when the wind drops can you keep and eye out for Hunt/Cox/Cook/Bloore for me please?   I had a look when I was there in 1998 but it was so overgrown we could hardly get in - is it any better now?

Cheers, Irene

Wet and windy in my area of Qld at the moment but its still 30 degrees celsius!!  What we call our wet season as opposed to winter which is dry and avaerages about 24 - 25 degrees!!  My son in London says its very cold!!

Hi Irene,

Fancy meeting you here!!! ;D ;D ;D

Will see what I can find - I think it hasn't been touched since 1898

If the temp got to 30C I would be there now!!

Never got over 5C today and a bitter wind - don't know about wind chill factors - all new to me  - but it felt like minus 20C!!

Now who else wanted me crawling on my hands and knees??!!

Cheers

Hi Irene & sandraanne,

Not sure if this report should be on here or the weather channel!!
Wind dropped, slightly warmer - go to church graveyard - spend 50 mins looking - in England so as soon as wind drops, rain starts - will go back again!!

Found just one - sorry Irene, are you sure your family lived in Whitchurch!! - only looked at small part.

Sarah Barlow daughter of Edward & Sarah Barlow of Whitchurch
Died October 2nd, 1876 aged 67 - Asleep in Jesus
Also of Elizabeth Barlow daughter of the above died October 11th 1888 aged 69 years

Hope this is one of yours sandraanne .

Cheers
