Do you mean Prudence was born in 1879 and you expect her parents marriage before that?

So therefore you want -The marriage of Joseph Dykes to Eliza - before 1879?

Hi Keith, just edited my original post...

I found an exciting link on the Cheshire index....

Joseph Dykes married Elizabeth Glassey in Nantwich, Cheshire some time between 1866 and 1870, so I now have a last name to put with the name on the census!

Elizabeth Glassey, B. ~1852 Whitchurch
                              M. Joseph Dykes (sometime between 1866-1870) Nantwich
              Had four children in Audlem.

Can you see what you've got on Glassey folks?

Right - now I can see through the Glass!!

Will have a look next week in the Parish Records at Whitchurch Library - have you more than 1 census record of her age? (not that it means that much!!)

It depends on what year!!

Whitchurch is on the border of Shropshire and Cheshire - at the moment it is in Shropshire!!
The town hasn't moved but the line on the map has!!
There is an 1841 census only for Whitchurch in the library.

Just had a look through the baptisms for Whitchurch for the period 1850-6 and no Glassey listed at all.

I have 3 siblings I want to find the name of their Mother.

John b @ 1839
Sarah b@ 1833

On census's the place of birth for William changes.

William
1851....Whitchurch, Cheshire
1861....Nottinghamshire
1871.... Nottinghamshire
1881...Witchurch, Shropshire
1891...Nottingham

John
1851...Whitchurch, Cheshire
(Dies 1857)

Sarah is consistent throughout as born in Nottingham.

I have not been able to find them on the 1841 census for Nottingham.

According to all of their marriage certs their Fathers
name was George Allen (Labourer).
I have not found anything whatsoever on George.

From 1851 census onwards they all lived in Staffordshire.

Any advice please as where to look?

Right - so we presume that unless all 3 were fibbing - their father was George - who stands a fair chance of being alive in 1841?

Don't suppose mother ever baby sat at census time - no ahh well - that's her out!

So it might help if I took at look at the 1841 Whitchurch census to see how many Allens there are?

And here was me thinking it was only ladies who lied about there ages - what was William doing with an age span of 12 years - did he take an older bride?
Maybe George moved to Whitchurch from Nottingham after 1833 - had 2 kids and then left - hopefully after the 1841 census.

Will have a look in the library next week to see what I can find.

No one knows where Whitchurch is - Cheshire or Shropshire - depends on if it's raining!!
