Hi Jane,

Do you want the bad news or the not to bad news!! ;D ;D

No marriage from 1822 - 1832 for any Elliotts.  :( :(

While I was there I thought I would look at the baptismal records - before 1820 they are as I stated just a typewritten copy of the records - from 1820 onwards they are on fiche, with slightly more details - but not like a 1837 certificate!!

No 1094                                                                    Abode
July  21 1833 Ellen daughter of  - Henry & Ann - Elliott - Rising Sun - Joiner

No 178
Oct 20th 1831 William son of     - Henry & Ann  - Elliott - Rising Sun - Joiner

I have found out that the Rising Sun were cottages on the Wrexham Road - just out side Whitchurch - near the canal - about 1/2 mile from Grindley Brook - where the Elliotts were in 1841 - a bit more useless information!!!  ;D ;D

As Ann was from out of the county as per 1841 census - do you have her on any other census - giving her birthplace details?? Then you could try for her marriage in that town.

Cheers

Keith

Thanks keith..I think ;D

I am going to see on the Lancashire board if anyone has access to the 1861 census and can find the family and see if where Ann was born. I have tried but I cannot find the family.

There is always the fact that they didn't get married until after the birth of William!!

Well I am off to pester somebody else..I'll let you know how I get on

I'm back!!!

Evening Keith...

Well I think the Elliots dropped off the face of the earth!!! The earliest I can check for myself is 1871 census and I can find the son Henry in Ancoats, Manchester but no parents, some kind soul has double check for me on the Lancashire board for me and cannot find them either. Maybe Henry and Ann never moved to Manchester so I am going to post a 1861 lookup on this boards.

Hi Jane,

I have those little problems as well sometimes!!

Try to find anything about the rest of the family - Williams possible marriage - then trace his parents back??!!

Looked on IGI for possible marriage of Ann and Henry  - only one is 1825 to Ann Jones in Liverpool - with Henry John Elliott - he hasn't used John anywhere has he?

Keeping banging your head against the brickwall - something will give - hope it's the wall!  ;D ;D ;D

Cheers

Keith

I'm back like a bad penny!!!

I've been trying to trace the two children who were born after 1837. I cannot find any birth records for Henry, although I have got census info for him. However I have found a record for Mary Anne;

Surname   Given Name   District   Volume   Page

~~~~~~~~
Births Jun 1841
~~~~~~~~

ELLIOTT Mary Ann Wem &c 18 210

Not really sure what to do with it now though. Where is my next port of call, do you know the admin centre I need to contact to get a copy of this cert? Can they get it from this reference from FreeBMD

Hi Jane,

Well done - always different ways to get the same information

You have 2 choices - over the net you can get a certificate with that reference number - easiest - but will take 3 weeks at the present time.

If you click on the "Wem" part of the BMD it will lead you to North Shropshire Registration District at Wem - they should be able to help - usually need more information - like address etc - but when I have used local offices found them very helpful - although not used Wem.
Advantage is that they only take 2/3 days.
With both applications put in a "check point" - regarding father or mothers name - just to make sure you have the correct one - you can download a form - to fill in all the details - do you have any site with those?

Don't worry asking me - I have only been doing this for months - pleased to give something back to this site for all the help I have received.

Cheers

Hi Keith

Do you think when you've got a minute you could check out the Bapt records for the first two children of Henry Elliot , William and Ellen, something in the back of my mind is telling me that Ann may not be their mother. There is a gap of nearly 10 years before Mary Ann and Henry are born.
As I can only get records for Mary Ann (sent for cert) that will only confirm that Ann was HER mother.

Deerstalker on please ;D

Hi Jane,

Not quite with you - it was the baptismal records for William & Ellen I found - with Ann as their mother - do you mean Henry??

If there is doubt the only thing is - are there 2 Anns??
The gap might be 2 reasons - moved to another area - then came back - we know they lived at different addresses in Whitchurch in 1833 and 1841 - or could be other children who died young.

Let me know if I have got it wrong!!  ;D

Cheers
