Hodge - Completed with Thanks
« on: Wednesday 15 November 06 21:01 GMT (UK) »
Hello does anyone have any bright ideas how to track the following family?  The history is as follows:-

Ellen Charlotte CHEESLEY married George (Charles) E A HODGE in Chelsea 1905.

Their first child was George Albert HODGE born Chelsea in 1906.  After that the trail goes cold.

I have checked the electoral roll and the family have left the address by 1907.  It is believed there were other children.  Someone said that the family ended up in Ealing but this is unproven.  Any ideas where to go from here welcome.  2011 is a long time to wait! ;)

Don't want to upset you Rosie, but the 1911 census won't be released until 2012!   :'(

It is believed there were other children ....

If you are lucky, and later kids were born after 2Q 1911, the mothers maiden name will be shown in the Birth index ....

I think that apart from some serious searching of the BMD indexes, possible newspaper reports, WW1 medal cards, etc. we're all going to have to wait, Rosie  :(

Thank you all.

I did check down the births after 1911 but did not find anything. Ho hum. WW1 medical cards is a thought though. Cheers.

Hi Rosie

Have you looked to see whether you have a match for George Albert Hodge on GenesReunited?

There's a "pam & jim" with a George Albert Hodge born 1906 - Chelsea; and a "William" and a "Jane" - they both have a George Albert Gordon Hodge born 1906 - Chelsea.  It might be worth contacting them - even if they aren't your family at least you can then eliminate some Hodges in the area.

If you want me to contact them on your behalf, please let me know.  (Send me a PM with your email, and I'll ask them to email you).

Helen

p.s.   Have a look at the 'trying to find' board on GenesReunited for Hodge - there are a couple of mentions of the Hodge/Cheesley family.
Warwickshire - ADKINS / KENNARD
Hertfordshire - BRADD / ROBLETT / THOROGOOD / WATSON
ABURN - BLANKS - BLOGG - BURGESS - FERRY - FREEMAN - GOODRICK - GOTTY -MEECH - MIDDLEDITCH -  RUSSELL - PLANT - THURSTON

Thanks Gadet.  I meant medal card - I was in a bit of a hurry when I typed my mesage - that's my story anyway!

Thank you very much Helen.  One of the messages on the trying to find board is mine but I appreciate the time you have taken to look for me.

With regard the "matches", I think the people you mention have shared the Hodge names from my own GR tree but they are not directly related to the line being worked on.  Although I am not sure about a Jane.  I will go to GR and see what I can find out.

Again, thanks both.   Rosie

Was George (Charles) E A Hodge in a trade of any sort.  If so you might be able to find him in a Kelly's or PO directory?

Historical Directories have directories as late as the mid 1910s
