Thanks, Trees.

Growing up in London in the 1950s, I hardly ran into the Hemmings name and thought it was quite rare.  Little did I know what was out there waiting for me, especially in Banburyshire and the West Midlands. ;)

BTW, I love your website!

Hi there,
In my family tree I have a Mary Hemming who married Robert Grantham 19/10/1790 at Tysoe, Warwickshire, Eng.
Any chance that Mary may belong to your family tree?
Kind regards,
Mel
NZ.

Hi Mel:

I'm afraid I have no known link to your Mary in Tysoe at the moment. I will let you know if anything turns up. Happy hunting.

Hi Trees & Rthom,
Thank you for the reply to my Hemmings query.
Afraid I haven't come across Bayliss or Wigson.
The other surnames I'm connected to in Tysoe are:-
Newton, Litefoote/Lightfoote, Austin, Ward, Hancox, Winter & Quinney.
Maybe we will find a connection some day.
Kind regards,
Mel

I have just started looking at a Hemmings line in my (ex) wife' s tree, from Shipston on Stour, which is only 5 miles from Tysoe.

The earliest I have is Thomas Hemmimgs who married Jane Davies on 27 Nov 1754 at Shipston on Stour, who had a son Thomas baptised 16 March 1767. I don't know where Thomas was from (yet!)

Ring any bells? Worcs/Warwicks are out of my usual counties of interest

David

Hi David,

Although I have a printout of Tysoe Baptisms 1575-1837 for Hemmings (and variants of the name) I cant find any Thomas born in Tysoe 1764 nor for his father Thomas circa 1734

I do have some deaths for hemming's in Tysoe for the same period but no Thomas

Marriages for that period in Tysoe were:-
19 Apr 1707 Wm Hemmins & Jane Cockerill
26 Oct 1740 E;izabeth Hemmins & Charles Westbury
5 May 1752 John Hemmens & Elizabeth Hutcheons
11 Oc 1785 Ann Hemmins & John Brewer
8 Nov 1815 Sarah Heming & Henry Castle
18 Oct 1819 Daniel Hemmings & Auss Ainge
19 Oct 1790 Mary Hemmings & Robert Grantham (which is my family connection)

The family then seem to have moved onto Skipton/Shipton on Stour, Deddington, Pillerton Priors & Pillerton, Rowington, Butlers Marston & Idlicoat & Rowington.

Regards,
Mel

Thanks for that information Mel, which if nothing else eliminates Tysoe!

Kind regards
