Borden or Iwade Parish Chest
« on: Sunday 12 November 06 17:13 GMT (UK) »
Hello All,

Would anyone have access to Parish Chest information for Borden, Kent or Iwade, Kent?  I am looking for further information about my GG grandfather.  He was born out of wedlock and was baptised in Borden on December 23, 1804.

Marshal son of Sophia Atwater

On all census (1851 to 1881), Marshal has listed that he was born in Iwade so it is quite possible that he was born there and baptised in Borden.

Surname variations include ATWATER, ATTWATER & HATWATER

Any help is greatly appreciated.   :-*

Hello Nancy
Don't know whether this is any help but Marshall Attwood with wife Ann, William aged 4 and Marshall George aged 2 were removed from Milton Regis to Iwade 26 October 1829.

Hi Barbara,

I do have a copy of that Removal order.  Interesting that you have it under ATTWOOD as my copy has it under ATTWATER   ???  I appreciate your time in looking for me.  Thank you.

Hi Barbara,

Thanks for that correction.  I was thinking that I would have to start looking at a whole new name variation.   :o  Whew!  :P  That was a close one as there are many more Attwoods than there are Attwaters.

Hi Nancy.
I know her parents names and that she had a brother Richard, this is  thanks to other members posting this info.
my grandmother who was one of Effield's daughters never spoke about her parents.
I am located in Ramsgate kent, which ironically is only approx an hours journey from Iwade. I had hoped to visit Hoo area during the schol holidays, but family illness means this is no longer possiblr.
Anything you can share while i am confined to barracks will be appreciated.

Hi Sue,

It has been a while since I researched this family so there may be further information available now.  I am in Canada so thie information I have has been pretty much online.

Effield Hart ATTWATER was the daughter of Richard Marshall and Mary Ann Attwater (Maiden name unknown)  If you purchase her birth certificate, it will give you her mother's maiden name.

Sept 1886, Milton, 2a 892.

Effield lived in Hoo during the 1891 & 1901 census.  She married Harry Helman on May 25, 1901 at St Mary Chatham, Kent.  The image is on the City Arc website.

She had two children that I know of, Cressy and Arnold.  This information was given to me by a family member who has now passed.  (he was her nephew)  I have not searched any further on the children.

Effield had two brother's - Richard and Ernest.  Richard died in WW1 on the HMS Cressy.  A name that Effield gave her daughter.  Ernest married May Eveline Law and went on to have 13 children.

Are you able to give me any further information on you grandmother?  Was she Cressy or was there another daughter?
