Hi Belle

The age for James and Monica's daughter on the 1930 census is not 19/12 it is 1 year 9 months, which I have typed as it appears on the census 1 9/12.

1900 census

219 Hall? Street, Syracuse Ward 8, Onondaga, New York

Head, Jeremiah Keefe, born Feb 1870, age 29, married for 3 years, born Ireland, both parents born Ireland, imm year 1893, 7 years in US, Alien, Freight Dealer
Wife, Nellie, born Jan 1874, age 26, 2 children, 2 living, born New York, both parents born Ireland
Son, Francis, born Feb 1898, age 2, born New York
Daughter, Mary, born March 1899, age 1, born New York

If this is the family you are looking for then you will probably find that Nellie is in fact Ellen age 7 on the 1880 census. Nellie being a pet name for (H)ellen.

There is possibly a lot more info on this family but unfortunately I have to go out now. If no one else has found anything later, I will do more searches.

Best wishes

Agnes

I am here (and I certainly shouldn't be ::)). I have them in the 1910 census:

Jeremiah Reefe (Keefe), age 38, married 13 years, born Ire, works for railroad, wife Nellie, 36, born New York, nine children, nine still living:  Frances, 12, Mary, 11, Daniel, 9,  Katherine, 8, Helen, 7, a daughter 6 her name starts with a J, but I can't read it, Jeremiah, 3, Bertha, 2, and Marguerite, under 1 (can't read the months). No Paul here. Let me check the next census.  :D

Ok, got them in 1920.

There is Jerimiah, Nellie, Mary, Daniel, Catherine, Helen, Julia (the one I couldn't read), a son and daughter at the bottom of the page and unreadable, Margaret, 9, Leo, 6 and Paul 5. They are still in Syracuse. The two unreadable ones are 14 and 12, so that must be Jeremiah and Bertha.

Which takes us to 1930: And here we have Jeremiah and Nellie, along with Mary, 31, Margaret, 20, Leo, 17 and Paul 15. I can't actually look at the census, as it only produces the first few lines. Funny, but my family was in Syracuse at the same time and the same thing happens for my great-uncle. I have tried to let ancestry know, but to no avail.

I have found a death record for Jeremiah Jr., which has his birthdate as 28 May 1906 and he died June 1983 in Syracuse.

I have a Leo Keefe born 21 Mar 1902 in New York, died in California 3 Mar 1968.

I think that's it for now. Let me know if I can find anything else for you.

I have to run now, but I will look into the obit stuff in a bit. This is my neck of the woods. I am 35 miles from Syracuse right now and my dad's family was from there. I feel a kinship ;D.

I would possibly say he had no wife or kids and just siblings and nephews, although I don't recall the name Mortimer off the top of my head. I'll let you know.

Thanks Agnes.

Naughty boy he was hiding, must have been born 1915,
They could have done with television in those days,so many children!!
Inmate over here usually means prisoner.
It would seem information is more detailed in US then over here.

Inmate would definitely mean prison here (or patient in mental hospital possibly) but here definitely prisoner.

I have lost track of what I am looking for so let me know if you need anything else.
