John McCormick/ McCormack - Tuam, Galway
« on: Friday 10 November 06 21:23 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for info on mt g.g. grandfather John McCormick (or McCormack).

He was born in 1817, in Tuam Galway. He married a Nora Higgins (1813-1845)
They had 3 sons; James, Michael and Patrick.

Nora died in Ireland, with a supposed 4 th child (name and sex unknown) in 1845, and John took the boys to England. He died in manchester in 1849.

Would love to know any info on John and Nora, and possibly any siblings or parents. I would presume they are RC, as most later McCormick  generations are.

You can look at a copy of Tuam Parish register from your local the LDS library.

You will have to order it and it cost £2.70 for a month.

They have the  Register  1790 to 1929.

Hope this helps.

Good luck

I know that a McCormack family owned a large shop in Tuam for years up till about 1980 so the name is around.
