Old Cumnock
« on: Friday 10 November 06 13:43 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find out where my ancestors may have gone to baptize their son James Hannan in 1851-52, who was down as being born in Old Cumnock, Ayrshire.  This information I got from the 1861 census, sadly a lady from the Baird museum looked at the 1851 census for this area for an entry but didn't find anything.  Could someone tell me where I can find the Roman Catholic Church that would have possibly been used for the baptism of James Hannan.  His parents were James & Margaret Hannan, both originally from Ireland.  I'd really appreciate any help!

Thanks for that, the only problem is that St John's was only erected in 1882 and James was baptized in 1851-52 ish, and I can not locate a near by Roman Catholic Church.

There is a Janet Hannah born to James Hannah and Margaret Ramsey - christened Dalmellington, 17 February 1852, born 12 January 1852 - no birth place given but Dalmellington is near Old Cumnock and Hannan could easily be Hannah.  No James though.  (IGI)

Thank you, I've noticed the name Hannan constantly gets misspelled, I'll look into that.
