Wilson - Malay Peninsular circa 1920s

I hope I've found my way to the correct board for this query 

Biker has found me a very interesting will reference today which was resealed Penang, 1927.

At least two of my grt grt uncle Alexander Gordon Wilson's sons  went to the Malay peninsular circa 1910-1920. Family stories say that they were involved in rubber plantations out there. I have an address of one of them from my Grandfather's WW1 diary as

Sungie Bogak
Bagan Serai
Puak

I have found that one of them returned to the UK in the 1930s. However, I cannot trace the other one, John Wallace Wilson, b. circa 1887. I gather that he married an Australian woman called Joy and they had at least two children, John and Gordon.  I attempted to trace this family a while back but came up with nothing.

I have absolutely no idea how to take this family forward and would be very grateful for any advice or info.

I've been playing on www.ancestorsonboard.com yesterday and today, now that the new decade 1910-1919 has been released. There are plenty of Wilsons going to Malaysia, including one with the middle name Wallis.

If you can, I suggest you read a fantastic book on the Brits in Malaysia between the Wars, called "Tales from the South China Seas" by Charles Allen.

I'll try to get hold of the book.

The Wallis looks an interesting mis-spelling as well. I have a sub to findmypast so I can check up on them.

Maybe your ancester's writing was a bit hard to read.  There is a place called Bagan Seri in the state of Perak, and Sungai means (I think) river.  If you google the names they will tell you where they are.  There are several histories of rubber plantations in Malaysia. Guthries is the name that springs to mind - I think they bought out several of them after independence.

I  did Google it when I first found the address and got maps, etc. Most of them returned to Wales but John Wallace didn't and he married an ? Australian woman called Joy, as far as family tales have it.

I must get back to them - the trouble is I get so  involved in tracing other peoples' s families and doing other peoples photo restorations and forget that I have a host of lovely stuff that I should catch up with

Gadget, do you have the name of Alexander Gordon Wilson's wife.....that could help just in case John Wallace Wilson died in Australia....

It was Rebecca Golden but she died  6 weeks before Alexander Gordon - I think that was 1924 - i'll go check that too

Alexander Gordon died December 1924 and his wife was circa September 1924.

If John Wallace happened to die in Australia in Victoria or NSW, the index would most likely have his parent's names on it. It makes it so much easier to locate the person you are looking for. Unfortunately, not all the states follow that pattern.
