Haven't forgotten about you. Still waiting to hear from my friend to send information- perhaps she is checking with her source. Will be in touch whenever I hear any more.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi there I live in the townland of Ardkill, Ardmore. It is a rural countryside location, located about 6miles from the city of Derry. My family have only been living/farming in Ardkill since the 1970's.
There is an old derelict house/mansion on the Ardkill Road called Ardkill House. It was owned by wealthly landowners back in the 1800/1900's, I think their surname was Stevenson. Maybe your relative worked there?
You mentioned a surname, Sherrard. I know that in Ardmore there is still a family with this surname living in the area.
If you go to multimap.com, select Northern Ireland then input BT47 3RH into the postcode field you can view a map of Ardkill. Let me know if you want me to find out anything more specfic...

Thank You for taking the time to respond. I am very interested in finding out anything about my ancestors' connection to the Ardkill area. I had discovered a man named Robert Stevenson who must have been an important figure in his day around there. This has to be the Ardkill House family. This led me to believe that my great great Grandfather was working on this estate for the Stevenson family. All conjecture on my part. I know that there are Stevensons buried in the Old Glendermott cemetery. I found a website that lists some of the names on the grave markers. I wonder if the Sherrards have been in this area since the 1840s-1850s. This may be my great great Grandmothers family. My late father mentioned that there may have been a plant nursery in the family history somewhere. So the gardener connection could come from that. Maybe it was the Sherrards who were in the business. Are you any where near the old cemetery? Any Sherrard contact info. Many Thanks

Yes I think the old cemetry is close by so I could do a bit of hunting for you. Let me know specific details. Also if you have the cemetery name and address it would help as there are several old cemeterys in the area.

Sherrard contact in Ardmore would be: (*)

Hello again. Firstly let me thank you for the info. regarding Mr. Sherrard. I will write him and hope he is receptive to my inquiries. Nothing ventured... As far as the old cemetery location is concerned I understand that it is tucked behind the Altnagelvin hospital. I know that my great great grandfather John Moon was a Congregationalist . I  don't know about the Sherrards. Any thing else you could discover would be very much appreciated. Thank You!
