Hi Blue Spirit

The only thing I can think of is that Fareham Barracks refers to Fort Fareham - if you google that there's loads of stuff including an interesting .pdf from palmerstonforts.org

Westbury Manor Museum may be able to help further.

Is Maker Barracks also in Hampshire ?

Wendi :)

Hi Wendi;
Thanks for the reply,  i have found  some information and the PDF file, but not much relating to Fort Fareham 1920, however we have now found the medal card and service number for our chap and most likly find more from the records.

best wishes and thanks...

Oh that's Ok then, I hate to see a post go unanswered - and was interested to know that Fort Fareham may have still been in use in 1920's.

Good luck with your research

Wendi :)

hi

just in case you hit a bit of brick wall concerning fort fareham

try fort brockhurst  which at the time was one of five main barracks in the area, the RGA would of have some sort of RHQ there and fort fareham would of been a sub section

http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/server/show/ConProperty.188

most of the forts were used up till the end of WW2 with st Goerges barrcks Gosport being used upto late 1980s to early 90s

also try fort nelson part of the royal armouries they hold an archive of the forts

http://www.royalarmouries.org/extsite/view.jsp?sectionId=2201

hope this is of some help to you

Thanks for the links, have not come across these, although we have found out quite alot of details, it seems there is always some thing else to digest, as I am researching for a friend, the Royal Armouries may well be a port of call when we visit the area.

Thank you for the help

best wishes.
