that's a shame, there is another william latham in the medal cards

Medal card of Latham, William
Corps   Regiment No   Rank
Manchester Regiment    10499    Private

but he is 18th battalion, an original manchester pal

i'd be very happy to add william's photo to manchester regiment group site if you wish

theres these two.
pte w.latham 41267,won the military medal, his number is one that crops up amongst soldiers in the 3/5th- 3/10th battalions.
and theres this man.
pte w.latham
296
he looks like a prewar territorial, many serving territorials ended up in the 3/5th-3/10th to help the new recruits

Thank you Mack for that.  I think I will need to do more research.  My grandad was a very modest quiet man and if he won a medal he would not have said, although I am sure my mum would have and I don't recall anyone in the family mentioning it.  He wasn't in the TA I'm sure of that.  I beleive he went to war at 16, but again it is only what I heard when I was a child.  I will keep looking and if I get chance I will look on the MR website, still at work :'(
