Miriam Liley - Someone has put a spanner in the works!!!UPDATED
« on: Tuesday 07 November 06 19:19 GMT (UK) »
I have found this death to be right have started new threads at http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,197702.0.html

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,197698.0.html

I have locked this board.

I have had a lot of help on this person, on this board and on others. I got a birth certificate for who we were sure was the right person but someone on one of the other boards has questioned whether we have the right person.

the birth certificate reads.

18th January 1880 Hull Street Morley
Miriam, Father: William Liley, Mother: Eliza Liley, formely Singleton, Father's Occupation: Coalminer.

The registration District is Dewsbury. Sub-District Morley in the county of York.

The problem is someone has found on Yorkshire Bmd

Birth 1880
Miriam Liley Sub District: Morley Registered at : Leeds Ref Morl/26/284

and also

Death 1880
Miriam Liley, Sub-District: Rothwell, Registered at: Leeds, Ref Roth/11/86

I have looked on full BMD and cannot find this death, the nearest I can find is

Dec Quarter 1880

Liley Marian age 0 Hunslet V 9b P 206
Liley Merian age 0 Hunslet V 9b P 206

Wondered what other people thought!!!!

I know we have never been able to find Miriam on census but I do have her Marriage certificate and I have found her Death. Also I know she was in the St Johns Ambulance in Todmondon which is in the same area as Dewsbury.

Please if anyone can help

The Father on both is listed as William Liley both Coalminer though on the marriage certificate he is Deceased.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Regarding the fact there's no trace of Miriam Liley on any census records (and I couldn't resist a look myself lol), have you concidered the fact her Mother might have remarried?

I see from Free BMD an Elizabeth LILEY married in 1890, Dewsbury reg dist, JFM quarter. Grooms either Charles Bentley or Samuel Morrell.

Oh and don't suppose there are any clues in the witnesses at her wedding?

Also I know she was in the St Johns Ambulance in Todmondon which is in the same area as Dewsbury.

Do you mean Todmorden?  Todmorden is 25 miles from Dewsbury.

Don't want to put a further spanner in the works!  Do you know where she lived post-1900?

The witnesses don't hold many clues One of them Mary Sykes is the grooms half sister and the other we do not know who he is.

Yes I do mean Todmorden sorry I spelt it as we pronounce it  ;D I knew it was in the same area.

in 1903 when she married she lived at West Melton Rotherham and in her later years she lived at Wombwell Barnsley.

In her later years she nursed people with things like TB and other infectious diseases.

Just as a matter of interest if you search for William Liley in 1881 you do find one in Morley who is married to an Eliza but they do not have a child with them.
Can you put a link to the other post so that we can see what has already been done.  I may be repeating what has been said but how do you know Miriam's age?  It may be wrong at marriage and death so have you searched for later births?  Did she have a pet name that might show on a census?

Sorry to go about the Todmorden thing, but Wombwell is almost 50 miles from Todmorden, and Rotherham even further.

Also did you know Todmorden was in Lancashire until 1888?

Apologies if you know all this.

It has just occurred to me that if you have never found her in a census how do you know she was born in Yorkshire??
