Anfield cemetary, Liverpool

I have a record of a grave from Anfield cemetary of an ancestor named Mary Stelfox who died aged 11 years in 1876.
I dont live too far away and would like to visit the grave but the record states section 41, no 170.
I have been unable to corresponde this to any map of the cemetary.  Does anyone know how my info applies to the cemetary?

Hi Alex

I had a similar line to follow and Anfield cemetary is very, very big.   I was there about 2 months ago and found the cemetary office very helpful.  If you live near do go along and ask for help, the staff are very helpful.

Hello Foxstel.   Sorry to tell you that I tried telephoning Anfield Cemetery a few weeks ago.  The number was unobtainable.  I phoned Liverpool City Council and they advised me that all cemetery offices now closed except for Allerton which handles all enquiries.  There is now a TEN POUNDS fee for each enquiry! A couple of years ago I called Anfield and the staff there were most helpful for free.  Now it seems Liverpool City Council have jumped on the bandwagon of commercial enterprise before being helpful.

Thanks I tried that avenue myself but got nowhere.  I went the cemetary and asked a priest who didn't really know.  The office was closed when i went.  Will try again soon.  Thanks again.

Hi Foxtel, I have a plan of Anfield Cemetery and the sections only go1-40 C of E, 1-13 RC, and 1-12 Non Conformist. I believe you have to apply to Calderstones for any information now.

Was Mary Stelfox buried in a public grave or a private grave? If she was in a private grave, then Allerton {for a fee} will tell you who else is buried in that grave, which could be useful for finding other family members. However, if she was buried in a public grave, then she is in with strangers who just happened to die at about the same time. There are usually about a dozen per public grave. In that case, Allerton will not tell you who else is buried in that grave.
There are no grave stones/markers for public graves

Hi Alex,
I paid a visit to Annfield cemetery at the back end of last year to look up a number of my ancestors. If you have the section and plot number and are able to visit then you should be able to clearly identify the grave site. As mentioned previously if it does not have a headstone then it is more difficult and you can only find the rough site by referring to headstones which contain plot numbers.

go into the crematoriam  office next door and ask for Bob Halliday  . he is brilliant and if he is there he will more than likely take you to the grave
