Hello Cherielynn,

Lovely to see these. Yes, they did get cut off. The maximum allowable attachment size here is 500 KB. While both of those images are smaller than that, together they add up to more. It may be that they have to be posted one at a time in separate posts. Do you want to try that?

Cheers,
Westoe

Wonderful! I knew I could get guidance.
Kidd and Hutton: Newry, Lancashire
Lee and Thompson: Bishopwearmouth, South Shields
Jones and Thomas: Glamorgan, Carmarthenshire
Wilson: unk, Ireland, York, Ontario
Knox: unk, Scotland, York, Ontario
Salvas Dit Laviolette, Lizotte, Pelletier, Langois: Quebec & France

Finding my Mariner ancestors, I understood why I didn’t bat an eye when I had the chance to work off shore. Of course I said yes, not for long, but long enough, Licensed 1980. (Remember lost and missing 1983 Glomar Java Sea

I need to look through all the posts on this subject but thought I would mention that I am a descendant and relative of the HAVELOCKS which includes the shipbuilder/owner William Havelock 1756-1836, father of Major General sir Henry Havelock. I don't recognize the marriage of your ancestors, of the top of may head, but there are lots of Havelocks whose names I don't remember.

My direct Havelock ancestor is another Ann Havelock 1801-1873, who married Henry Woolgar - they are my 3 x Great Grandparents.

I need to find out far more than I do, about the family as my knowledge is very limited when I get further back in time. I've had help to find out a lot about Ann's father, Thomas Havelock, as well as quite a lot about the much more illustrious side of the family - Maj Gen Sir Henry etc., that is. I also know that one of the ancestors, a George Havelock (I think) was a clockmaker and I have a photo of one of the clocks he made.

That's more then enough waffle from me. Hope it's of interest to someone out there.

Hello Helen

I am also a descendant of Anne Havelock, daughter of Sophia Louisa Martin/Egerton and Thomas Havelock.
Sophia Louisa's origins are very difficult to trace.

There are two claims from the same publisher, Nichols and Sons, one year apart (essentially identical claims) the first 1881 and the second in 1882 that Sophia Louisa's father Thomas Martin was the secretary to the Marquis of Granby.  The first claim was published in 1881 in "The Baronetage and Knightage" by Joseph Foster and the second "The Peerage of the British Empire for 1882: With the Orders of Knighthood".

I contacted the staff of His Grace David Manners, present Duke of Rutland, to verify the claim(s).
The Archivist, His Grace, plus an historian currently working with His Grace all of whom  "have both extensive and intensive knowledge of the correspondence of the Great Marquis of Granby, and of his son Charles when he was Marquis  have not come across a Thomas Martin in any official capacity".

If you have a birth or baptism record for Sophia Louisa Martin/Egerton,  I would really appreciate knowing the location and date of her birth and confirmation of the names of both her parents. I am about to consult an expert in genealogy and information that you could provide would be most helpful.

Once I have new information about Sophia Louisa Martin/Egerton and her father I will share it with you.

Kindest regards.

Hello Rhododendron

Owning a George Havelock long case clock is a prize indeed.
Would you be willing to post a photograph of it online please?
Adding to a very small collection of photographs of such clocks still in existence would be very interesting for his descendants.
I have only one small black and white photo of a clock face with one single hand (usual) that I found online.

Kindest regards,

BBB

Any info for this thread about ship owners and their ships? The Havelock threads will be sorely missing all this info. But this may all be in the published Havelock family stories and genealogies

Lee and Thompson: Bishopwearmouth, South Shields
Jones and Thomas: Glamorgan, Carmarthenshire
Wilson: unk, Ireland, York, Ontario
