1891 Census Wrexham : Ollerhead
« on: Friday 12 November 04 21:43 GMT (UK) »
If anyone would like a challange ? then please help to find a William OLLERHEAD in the 1891 census. He would be 60 years old, born in Wrexham and would be trade be a Confectioner. In 1901 he was a boarder in Holt Road, Wrexham. In 1881 he was a baker in Towyn, Merioneth. In 1871 he was with his wife and children in Castle Street Oswestry. At some point between 1871 and 1881 I believe that he and wife seperated, since I can find her in the 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses. He died in Wrexham in 1905.

Thank you very much. Certainly this is the family - the parents and brothers and sisters are spot on. Than you again for the help, it is an inspiration.

Looking further through the census of 7th June 1841, it would appear some relations are also in Wrexham...

Of Yorke Street, Wrexham...
Saml. Ollerhead, 20, Confectioner, (Born of this Parish)- no
Emma Ollerhead, 20, (Born of this Parish)- no

Of High Street, Wrexham...
James Ollerhead, 30, Confectioner, (Born of this Parish)- no

Thats all the Ollerhead's recorded...

No mention of Ollerhead's in the Wrexham Directories of 1818 & 1822

From the 1828 Wrexham Directory...

John Ollerhead, Hope Street, Confectioner & Flour Dealer

From the 1840 Wrexham Directory...

James Ollerhead, High Street, Confectioner & Baker
J Ollerhead, Hope Street, Confectioner & Flour Dealer
Samuel Ollerhead, Yorke Street, Grocer
William Ollerhead, Yorke Street, Baker

I was looking through other directories, and noticed an advertisement of Ollerhead Confectioner's. Apparently they were the 'only' makers of the well renowned 'Wrexham Ginger Bread'. I'll try & upload the advertisement & drop it on here...

From the 1859 Wrexham Directory...
James Ollerhead, High Street, Refreshment rooms & eating house

From the 1892 Wrexham Directory...
Mrs E. Ollerhead, 23 King Street.
Richard Ollerhead, Auctioneer, 5 Vegetable Market & 27 Beast Market.

From the 1895 Wrexham Directory...
Jas. Ollerhead, Furniture Broker, Abbot Street.
