Hi, Amanda. As a matter of interest, my g.g.g.g grandfather, William Artus, married Hannah Gabb of Longney about 1823/4. I still haven't traced the marriage entry, so maybe they didn't actually marry.

Hi Orinoco,

I'm sure we're connected somewhere, they say all Gabbs are related, but it could go back to the middle ages for all I know.  Unfortunately I still haven't gotten further back with my Gabbs than as mentioned in my first post.  My GGGG Grandfather William Gabb's wife was probably Sarah Alder, married in Kings Stanley in 1801 but I don't have anyway of linking this marriage to the birth of my GGG Grandfather John Gabb due to the poor quality of the Baptist records for this era.

Hi Sandee,

I haven't found much on my Newmans from Gloucestershire (Stround & Minchinhampton), I think you were one of the ladies who helped me find details on the censuses for Lucy S Newman my GGG Grandfather's sister (I think), Lucy was in my prayer book etc.  We didn't have a connection with the Prestbury Newmans at that stage.

My Gabbs are from my Dad's side and my Newmans are from my Mum's side so its just a coincidence that I have two branches that go back to a similar area.

Amanda  :)

Just had a cursory look, Amanda, and came across these:
Henry Artus married Sarah Savage, Coaley, 1792, witness, Thomas Gabb and Mary .......?
Noah Smith married Edith Dangerfield, Coaley, 1792, witness, Joseph Chamberlain and Thomas Gabb.
Hopefully, more to follow.

Hi Orinoco,

Thanks for your replies.  Do you have any birth records, particularly for a John Gabb born somewhere between 1795 to 1810 with a father's name William, somewhere in the Stroud area, probably Stonehouse or Kings Stanley?

Note William Gabb and Nancy Hill had a son John in 1804 in Cam but at this stage I don't believe its my John, a cousin had suggested it but my John was a baptist not an Anglican.  I'm more interested in any children of William Gabb and Sarah Alder if records can be found.

Regards,

Amanda

Hello, Amanda. I have reference to a couple of John Gabbs who fit both the birth date and the location criteria in the 1851 Census.
John, 51, cloth worker, Randwick.
John, 57, Servant, Randwick.
Also.
John, 51, blacksmith, N. Nibley, plus an outsider,
John, 57, ag. lab. Kempley.
There is also a William Gabb, 77, widower, born Hucclecote, in the workhouse at Gloucester.
Back to the mill................ :)
