more from the james Smyth/Smith Saga
« on: Monday 06 November 06 02:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi All who have helped me before!!

I have posted a few other topics on the same man how illusive he is proving.

But Determined as ever i took a trip up to my fathers dank and dismal attic and after a few hours i found a box in the box i found a baptism certificate(original)

In a very poor state it reads...

James Smyth was baptised according to the rites of the holy catholic church in the parish of stamullen on the 2 february 1868 parents Patrick Smyth and Catherin Boues Or Bones cant read as the cert is very old .sponsers  are (it looks like Teresa Smyth!

It looks like it says St patricks Church Stamullen.

Parish Priest (Looks Like) Connor.

The questions i have now are where is Stamullen in relation to scotch Hall  drogheda(as this is where his daughter was Born)

Does the name Boues or bones appear alot in these areas?

I will try and post an attachment of the cert but am not sure of how to do it

St Patrick's Church is still there - here's a link to Diocese of Meath website (also give address to contact):
http://www.dioceseofmeath.ie/parishes/stamullen.html

Stamullen is about (rough guess) 10 miles away from Scotch Hall in Drogheda - this website gives a you a very rough idea of where Stamullen is in relation to Drogheda:

Hi Tigster,
I know you posted this sometime ago (!!) but I just had a look at your posting. I'm pretty sure that the mothers name is Catherine Brian [sometimes written as O'Brian] which is a fairly common name in Meath I believe.
Hope this is of use.
