Youll/Yule 1901 census look up

I have been trying to find without success my Great grandparent's in the 1901 census.
Luke and Violet Youll
Luke born abt 1866 Belford
Violet (nee Oliver) born abt 1876 Embleton
They married 1897 and lived in Northumberland
If any one can help me i would be very gratefull

Were Luke Youll and Violet Oliver step-siblings.?

Although C1871 has Luke born in Belford, Northumberland, C1881 has his born in Gateshead, Co Durham.

There is a relevant birth registration at Gateshead DRO, but none at Belford DRO.

There is a marriage registration at Berwick DRO , Dec Quarter 1897 for Luke Youll and Violet Oliver.

Yes Michael Luke and violet were step sibling's, i did think it was a mistake when i saw he was born at Gateshead as all the other sibling's were born at Belford, very interesting,i got his marriage certificate and unfortunately i does not say where he was born,
I know my Grandmother Jane Olive Youll was born in 1900 (their daughter) i think there may have been a couple of children before her and a few after her.
I have have not been able to find anything on Luke and Violet or their children in the 1901 census.

I think we are all having trouble finding them on C1901.


When having difficulty finding folk on a census, I drop the surname from the search criteria.

But I get no hits for
"violet"... born "embleton" ( and other relevant permutations)

or

"luke" born "belford", etc.


Your g/m, Jane Olive Youll ( was middle name Olive or Oliver ? )... where was she born ?

(Trivia Bit... a million years ago I worked in a "family law" environment... although step-siblings could legally marry, they were prevented from marrying if they had lived in one family unit, even if there was no blood relationship. But more com[plicated than that summary....)

Hello Michael,
Thank you for your reply,and all your hard work looking into my complicated Youll family.
It is strange them marrying each other as yes they were in a household together in 1881 they were at Red Stead's, Howick.
My Grandmother's name was Jane Oliver Youll (sorry i missed off the r)she was born 27/4/1900 at High Thorn,Ellington near Morpeth, she was baptized on 27/5/1900 at Cresswell,Northumberland

On C1891 in Warkworth ( 4261-55-8) a Luke Youll, farm servant, aged 24, is recorded as born Sheriff Hill, Co Durham.

Your Luke was an "Agricultural labourer" on C1881.

On C1891, Violet Oliver, 14, in household of George/Jane Youll, which has moved to Pegswood village ( between Morpeth and Ashington).

No trace of a Belford area-born Luke Youll anywhere on C1891.

I wonder if that is my Luke Youll in1891 at Warkworth because that is where his grandparent's lived in 1841 only then they were called Yule,
Maybe the c1881 were right when it Say's he was born at Gateshead, his father  in c1901 George Youll living at Tweedmouth but he is called Yule again.

And as I mentioned earlier the Luke/Violet masrriage was registered in Dec Quarter of 1897 in Berwick DRO ( which covered Tweedmouth area)

On the birth cert of Jane Oliver Youll... what was Luke's occupation.
