I've just connected my family tree to the Coogans / Cogans from Cork, My great grandfather was born in Everton, England at the start of the 20th century, named John Joseph Coogan, he later changed his name to Duffy, I think in the late teens or early 1920s.
His parents travelled from Cork to Everton, in the late 19th century.
One story in the family is that John Joseph was a heavyweight boxer, and it goes that he wasn't allowed to fight under the name of Duffy, he had to use Coogan.
Does anyone have information on the coogan family from that area of Ireland, apparently there are still alot about, and all are related??
I'd love to be able to go back further with this line, but after the troubles began in ireland, the family divided and no-one now knows anything about our ancestors.
I look forward to any advice, and I hope there is a coogan out there that can help.
Cheers, Benn.
