Hi There,

The only Womersleys I have ever come across in Kent are 'mine' .. originally from Thorne or Fishlake area near Doncaster, Yorks.
I have a Charles b.1819 in Thanet, Kent .. father Henry, but they were a reasonably large family and I have probably many others to unearth yet.
I would love to know how and if Charles John fits in...
Regards
Mark

Hi!
That is interesting because so far I have not been able to go further back with Charles John WOMERSLEY. All the information I have is from census forms, his daughter's Evelinda's wedding certificate and his death certificate. He was born in Tenterden, Kent  circa 1810 and married an Ellen ???? (born circa 1815) He worked as an upholsterer, first in Hastings (as his daughter was born there) then in Pentonville Road, Clerkenwell, London (describing himself as a Master Upholsterer) and then he retired to 6 Wellington Square in Hastings. He died 13 April 1899 at the age of 90 and his buried there. There was a family portrait of him - a jolly looking bald headed man.
Hope you find a link.

Found him in 1871 along with two possible sons:-

1871 Harold Place, Hastings
Charles J Womersley; head. Married; aged 60; upholsterer & auctioneer; born Tenterden, Kent
Eleanor Womersley; wife; married; aged 56; born Kingsbridge, Devon
RG10/1031 f39 page 5

1871 26 St Andrews Road, Hastings
Frederick W Womersley; head; married; aged 31; upholsterer; born Hastings
Mary A; wife; married; aged 34; born Bexhill
Emily (11), Fred (6), Godfrey (4) and Henry (2) all born Hastings

1871 52 St Andrews Road, Hastings
Alfred D Womersley; head; married; aged 33; Auctioneer & Upholsterer; born Hastings, Sussex
Lucy; wife; married; aged 38; born Guestling, Sussex

There is also a potential marriage for a Charles John WOMERSLEY in the June Quarter of 1850 in Islington Volume 3 Page 225. Perhaps his marriage to Eleanor was a second marriage?

Hi, I know you left the question about Charles John Womersley (born Tenterden 1810) back in 2004 but I wondered if you were still researching him at all.  Is he a relative? You mention a photo of him?
He is a great great great grandfather of mine and I have researched his parents, his sisters, his three wives and his children - but you no doubt know all this by now! I still dont know his mother Mary Rose Anna's maiden name but have contacted Hampshire Record Office (she was born in Redbridge, 1782) to try to get copies of microfiches of parish records.
Please let me know how your research progressed. Thanks

My research on WOMERSLEY rather died a death because other family branches seemed to take precedence for one reason or another. What information do you have - I would be very interested. His daughter Evelinda Voyce WOMERSLEY b. 1834 married a MarK FOOKS b.1834 in 1862. They both died in 1917.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Bear with me, I will come back to you in the next few days re Charles Womersley, however, could you just tell me how you are related and has a relative passed the photo down to you?
Thanks
