Newbie here
« on: Monday 30 October 06 22:43 GMT (UK) »
Hello Everyone, I'm a newbie here. I have looked at the site once before but have now signed up. Have had some of my family tree traced back to 1600, Warren from St Just in Penwith, Cornwall, England on one side but am quite interested in the other side. I am looking for McArthur from Lieth, Midlothian, Scotland. Looking for birth of my grandfather but cannot find anything. Am also interested in Batchelor from Wiltshire, England about 1800 and Kempster from possibly Middlesex London about 1865. I am quite new at this also. Looking forward to any replies.
Thanking you Margaret.

Hi Margaret

Welcome to Rootschat. If you go on the county boards and post a question I am sure you will get help. I help on the Nottinghamshire board but I am sure all county boards are just as friendly. You will soon get the hang of it. You have found the best site.

Hi Everyone,
Not alot of info has been left to me from my grandparents, so i am really starting from scratch. The Batchelors I am searching for settled in Colac, Vic Aust. Originally from Portsea, Wiltshire, England. This info i found on another web site and have found a couple of contacts who have only got as far as me, as their not actually searching for the Batchelors yet.

I am after a John Henry Batchelor born 2 Sept 1821 in Portsea. Died June 1876 in Colac,Vic, Aust. Married Sarah Kemp, who was born in Crossreagh, Co. Cavan, Ireland and also died in Colac in 1918. Sarah remarried to a John Scott in 1878.

I am also looking for a Thomas Mc Arthur, my grandfather, who also never spoke much of his family other than an unmarried sister in Lieth, Scotland. My father seems to think that his father's fathers name was also Thomas and they were possibly pigfarmers. My gandfather immigrated to Australia around the mid 1920's and I am not even sure was ship he was on. He was born on 25 November 1901 In Scotland and died 2 August 1967 in Vic Aust. I do know some places were he worked in Scotland but have no actual deatails on exactly where he was born. Cannot find any info in the 1901 Census on even his parents at this stage. His mother was Annie (ann) Melville. Thats about all I can tell for now.
Thanks in advance.
Margaret.
