 Districts are different, maybe they changed around the same time, so yes it will be Walton on the Hill.

and put Clive street in the top box,then click on the numbers,it has a photo. (the info for 1-5 seems to be the same) I don't know if its the one you're after

My a-z is old but theres only a Clive Rd in Birkenhead listed,an Olive street is mentioned in the photo archives as being nearby,and theres an Olive Vale listed in Wavertree which is only 2 a-z squares from Toxteth cemetery.Someone Local could probably tell you better!!

Go to www.streetmap.co.uk and put in Northumberland Street, an entry will be there for Liverpool 8.  Toxteth.net has mention of the Lord Clive Pub but unfortunately no details or photograph for it, and this seems to have been on the corner of Northumberland and Clive Streets.

Thanks the picture is interesting. The person I am researching lived at 13 Clive Street in 1900. She married in St Matthews Church Toxteth. Her Husband lived in Essex Street.

I think that photo may be of the wrong Clive st,other streets named with those photos were Orphan St and Anne square,but Orphan St isn't near the Northumberland st that Mary A mentions,but Essex st is

What a sprawling mass of streets it all was!! It's a wonder any one could find their way home !

And it sounds as if they repeated the same  Street names in every district too,just like Manchester!
 I tried to find Cook St -the site of the first Rolls Royce factory-on old maps of Hulme recently and found 3 within 1/2 a mile of each other,and none of them were where I was led to believe it was!!!
