Baptism/Birth look up BELLAMY
« on: Sunday 29 October 06 20:04 GMT (UK) »
I have traced my Bellamy family back as far as I can on the census records (1851, can't find anything on 1841). Can anyone help me with tracing the baptism record of William Bellamy, born around 1800 in Spalding, Lincolnshire? In 1851 William is listed as a grocer. I am trying to find out if our family were indeed descended from Huguenot refugees which is what we've always been told.
Many thanks Lisa

It's best not to put the same thread on two different boards - it's likely to lead to duplication (and waste) of effort and general confusion.

I guess you say  "born Spalding" from the 1851 census, while the 1841 says "Not Lincs".  There appear to have been no BELLAMYs bap in Spalding between 1766 and 1820 (if the IGI is to be believed).

Are you referring to the 1841 census with the very young children, ie Missoura?  I'm not sure whether that's them but only because their son - my great great grandfather - William Thorpe Bellamy was born in 1823 and it seems a big age gap for the children. Elizabeth (nee Thorpe) Bellamy is on the 1861 census as a grocer with my great grandfather William (again) Bellamy aged 13 with her.
Apologies for putting the request on twice: i hadn't at first seen the "Requests" forum.
