I have two separate Mayer Families in my Tree,one from the Leek area following the Marriage of Joseph Mayer to a Mary Corbishley.The other one is the descendants of the Family of a Ralph Mayer born in Norton in c 1832.I would also be interested in any Pepper Family from the Burslem area.

Dear William

I can't tell you if you're family and mine are connected yet as I am still trying to find out how I am related to the Mayers, the Joseph Mayer I am looking for was a bachelor however, but his parents had 11 children. I am interested in the fact that you come from Cefn Mawr which is were my paternal family came from mid 19th cen, which funnily enough are, I think, the ones related to the Mayers.  If I find anymore re Peppers I will let you know. :)

Dear William

My Meredith family come from Cefn Mawr.  I am at work at the moment so can't be precise but when I get home I will give you more details but they also have links to Stoke on Trent through marriage to the Hupton Family.  I will contact later.

Hello William, just looking at the old family and Merediths lived in Hill st 1871, King St 1881, Well St 1891 all in Cefyn Mawr of course and the village of Glenrid also 1871 (his father) and way back in 1841 I have his father in Ifton Rhyn, I don't know if that means anything to you but I would be grateful if you could let me know if the streets are still there and what the area was like back then. I am from Lancashire by the way.  The whole family were in Lancashire by 1891, for the pits I assume.

Yes your Meredith Family were indeed from the Shropshire area.I'm afraid I am not able to give a first hand account of what the area was like in those days!However I can confirm all three streets are still in being,in fact I walked up Hill St to get to a shop on Well St tonight.If you are interested in what life was like in Cefn Mawr in the old days,you should see my thread on the Denbighshire forum at;

Oh dear William, it sounds as though I was suggesting you were old enough to remember :-[  Sorry about that, I shall look on your thread with interest, I am very interested to know how my ancestors may have lived, it puts skin on bones.
