Hello

Yes I have, I just can't find where he fits in with my family.  I have a letter sent from my aunt years ago telling me his line were cousins to my line.  The only lines I can find which correspond to the same area where he came from ie Staffs are Cope, Bainbridge, Johnson, Cooper and also various others that married into them.

Hello Steconkei
I think I have found it.  William Cope married Sarah Mayer.  Their daughter (Elizabeth) married Abel Mayer & Joseph Smith.  Now, I am related to the Copes and I think that William was my ancestor's brother.  That I will have to check.  Does that sound anything like the Mayer family tree or any names familiar?

(I would like to acknowledge Beckey for giving me the information)

My grans mum was Alice Mellor Dean who`s grand father was George W Mayer. Around I guess the 1920s my gran remembers some men coming to the house with something to do with the Mayers Millions. Because Alice was born out of marriage she threw the legal papers on the fire and told the men to leave. Its still has us all puzzled to this day. I think it might have something to do with Joseph Mayer as George might of been related

George W Mayer had a sister Ann mayer, but Ann died in infancy. George and Elizabeth ( Mellor )can be seen with Alice Dean Mellor in the1901 census

First of all,a very warm welcome to Rootschat.

Which Joseph Mayer are you looking at with regards to a possible link with your George W Mayer? From a brief look at Census entries it is unclear?

Thank you for your welcome, my grandma was Bessie Deaville and sadly died a few years ago but left some written details of the family. Her mum was Alice Deane ( on the 1901 census you can see her as Alice Dean Mellor ), there is a transcript error on Ancestry ( Alice Dean Melton ). Alice was born just before her mum married John dean and for some reason was raised by her grand parents George W Mayer and Betty (Elizabeth ) Mellor. Alice`s mum was Margaret Elizabeth Mellor ( the birth cert for her shows no father again ).

When my gran was a young girl she remembers some official men coming to the house with something to do with the Mayer fortunes, this I think was around the 1920s. Alice burnt the papers they had on the fire and told them to leave. It might of had something to do with her being born illegitimately. There might also of been a connection with George W Mayer passing away at the same time.

The first contact of the mayer connection which led me to finding Alice on Ancestry was a John mayer staying over as a relative to Elizabeth's father Solomon Mellor. I`ve linked up with others on Ancestry for the other family members .

There is an Ann Mayer as George`s Sister, but from the information gained from others she dies in infancy.

If you can help me with the family tale or any other information I would be very grateful as i`ve being searching for some time into the Mayer`s Millions.

Regards mark and Julie

I'm struggling to see how Alice could show as a Grandchild of George W and Bessie Mayer unless a Mayer was the father?I'm also struggling to find how the Dean come into all this?I take it Solomon Mellor was the son of the Solomon Mellor that shows born in c 1798?
