Request lookup in Northern Ireland.
« on: Friday 27 October 06 18:15 BST (UK) »
Request anyone who can please lookup one birth record or christening and if possible one marriage on behalf of my sister and myself in Northern Ireland records.  We need a definite starting point to start research in Ireland.  Our GG Grandparents have been tracked to County Antrim through Canada marriage and death records.

There first known son was Edward Roland (Rouland) Kirk and his Canada marriage record indicates born in Belfast approximately 1850.

There is another son Samuel estimated born 1855/56 in Ireland.

Then a daughter Mary Jane estimated born 1861.

William Kirk born April 12, 1863 (possibly 1864) in Belfast, County Antrim.  William Kirk would be the last of their children born in Ireland to the couple listed below.   all succeeeding children were born in Canada.

Parents will be  Edward Kirk b.1818 and Anne Clarke b.1827.

This would be the church marriage record we seek.  Edward Kirk and the birth of their first known child was approximately 1850.  So we believe  the marriage  is sometime between 1845 and 1850.

1881 census in Canada lists the family as C.Methodist religious affilation.  However all the children's marriage records in Ontario, Canada indicate  Presbyterian church affiliation.  So possibly they hid their real religious affiliation in Ireland.

This birthdate has been ascertained from Canada census records.  William's marriage record in Canada and other Canada records indicates he was born in Belfast or possibly another part of Antrim County but it is definitely Antrim County.

Thank you to anyone who can assist us and I will of course reimburse any costs of copying and mailing any records.
Possibly the Township Creevery, Parish of Antrim, Connor Registrar District, Shilvodan Electoral District.

Hi it might be worth looking at the site
www.ancestryireland.com
it has a database of BMD for county Antrim and Down.
Theres an Edward Kirk married 1851 County Antrim and
an Ann Clarke married 1851 County Antrim but you can't tell whether they marry each other on the free search.

To view a ONE name database for either Birth Marriage  or Death its £6 (I have no idea how much that is in dollars), for this you CAN download 5 transcribed certificates (always download 5 if there are 5 in the database as you never know when years down the line you may find that another Edward Kirk is your Edwards nephew, cousin etc)

You DO NOT NEED to join, just choose a user name and password when you go to the checkout.

The database is NOT complete but may be worth a chance!!

On the Griffiths Valuation theres an Edward Kirk  living in the townland of    Coolsythe in the parish of     Drummaul  in County Antrim ( this is using the free search at www.myirishancestry.com)

If this is the right one then on the site www.originsnetwork.com you can access the data about how much the land/property was worth ~ unfortunately they don't have the maps showing exactly where the person lived for Northern ireland yet. (they often have free access the last occassion was the US Labour Day and before that 4th July, its generally around 24 hours)

My great-great-great-grandmother, Jane Kirk, was the daughter of William Kirk and Anne Morrow of Mullinboys, Inver Parish, Co. Donegal.  On the 1796 Flax Census, there are three Kirks listed in Mullinboys - a William, a James, and a Daniel - and other Kirks listed in nearby towns.  I've found William and Anne's marriage record from 1822, and Jane's birth/baptism record from 1825, along with a birth/baptism record for their son, Thomas Kirk, born in 1823.  They also had a son named William, who's daughter Annie married a Robert Dowse of Ranelagh, Dublin.  I haven't spent much time researching the family, but I was recently told that my great-great-great-grandfather, James Hart, had already left Ireland to settle in New York, but came back a few years later to marry an older sister of Jane's, who he then found out had married someone else - so he married Jane, who was only 15 at the time.  They came to New York on the RMS Britannia in 1842, while Jane was seven months pregnant.

The bride for 1851 marriage is Mary and Ellen for the 1868 marriage.
