Hi Clara
Just been on to FreeBMD and found the following
Births Dec Quarter 1872
~~~~~~~~
BOYS Albert George Lewes 2b 172
Will see if I can locate the exact place under the Lewes Reg dist - no, it still says Lewes; but that covers Alciston as well.
Perhaps they were non conformist, or perhaps they never baptized their children. Was he the first born, did mum go home to her mum for the baby and possible baptism?
I notice from the 1881 census Albert is listed as Grandson of Elizabeth Stephens, that has got to be on his mothers side, it cant be his grandmother on his fathers side because she would be a BOYS as well.
Hi Chris, sorry that I haven't responded to your earlier post (not having been online for a bit).
I have a feeling that Albert George Boys was the illegitimate son of Caroline Boys (she was working in London as a cook, think she might have come home to have her baby, then returned to London to die of consumption.... speculation at the present.... ) I know that he was the grandson of Elizabeth Stephens (nee Hastings, first marriage Boys)
Clara
ps thanks again for your help and interest....
