Two requests if I may....

1808-1825

Mayfield (Calvinist) Baptisms
1767-1835

The original documents are of course held at TNA. If ESRO have microfilm copies could you see there's an entry for a James Blackman c1815 (+/- 2 years). I'm hoping that the parents are John and Sarah Blackman. (If there's an index, I'd be grateful for any other Blackman names from around 1808 to 1818.)

The second request is a little imprecise...

I have the birth cert for a James Blackman (aka James Russell) who was born in the Mayfield Almshouse on 13 January 1840. He was the illegit. son of the above James Blackman and Philadelphia Russell. (Baptised at St Dunstans on 15 March 1840 under his mother's maiden name.) In view of his birthplace and his illegitimacy, I'd be interested in any other relevant records - eg. Philadelphia's admission to the Almshouse or any maintenance order granted against James snr. Sorry this is a bit vague, but I'm not sure what sort of records exist.

No printed copies of transcripts of registers for Non conformist at Mayfield, and as mentioned in my initial post, I did not book a film reader to search any films.
No index, but did have a look through the church registers from 1805 to 1819 without finding any Blackman Names except the following:

March 7th 1819, Philadelphia Blackman baptized, dau of Christopher & Elizabeth Blackman, Farmer
March 22 1812, Alice Blackman baptized, dau of Samuel Blackman & Elizabeth
December 3rd 1809, Joseph Blackman baptized, son of Samuel Blackman & Elizabeth

 Birth Elizabeth TURLEY c 1801, Father George TURLEY

 Birth Elizabeth BEANEY c 1758

 Death Stephen BLUNDELL after 1838 ( Son Thomas's immigration records in 1838 state father Stephen BLUNDELL living in Bodiam, he would have been about 83 yrs at this time, but is not recorded in 1841 census so death probably between 1838 - 1841)

 Death Elizabeth BLUNDELL ( Thomas's mother not named on his immigration records so died before 1838, not to be confused with the death of Thomas's wife Elizabeth in Dec 1834)

 Marriage William BLUNDELL to Rachel ? before July 1755

 This family seemed to remain around the Salehurst/ Bodiam areas.

 I hope this isn't too much

Could not locate the deaths you required (but did find the one Eliabeth you did not require in Dec 1834) and the marriage of William to Rachel

Would there be any chance of a quick look in the Catsfield parish registers for banns,since Mary was born there? slim chance,I know.

I think the above all came from the Brede Registers, but I forgot to write that bit down - sorry

Celia Weston baptised 26 July 1806 (according to IGI member submission) mother Anne Weston. I would like confirmation please if possible and check that there isn't a father mentioned. This will solve something which has been puzzling me for a while.

Checked 1795 to 1812, no Verrall baptisms in this period at Alfriston

Mar 25th 1792, Elizabeth, dau of John & Sarah Sellens
Feb 16th 1794, Mary, dau of John & Sarah Sellens
April 30th 1796, Sophia, dau of John & Sarah Sellens
July 19th 1801, John, son of John & Sarah Sellens
May 3rd 1806, Jane, dau of John & Sarah Sellens

The memoir was found amongst papers of Professor Ralph Pugh whose family was connected with the Sargents.  A note inside the cover suggest that Richard Sinnock was related to the Sargents and that the book was at one time in the possession of G E Sargent of 5 St Georges Terrace, Dalston Rise.

Remarks and Observations made by Mr Richard Sinnock on his own Conduct and Gods dealings with him, both in Providence and Grace, through a long series of years, being spared to the advanced age of 82 years on the 6th day of December 1822.

Richard Sinnock began a cordwaining business in Hastings in 1762, but moved to London in 1785 in order to join a dissenting sect, and subsequently to Guildford.  In 1799 he moved to Battle where he built a new house adjoining the Baptist church which he attended.  He was active in promoting the founding of an independent congregation in Hastings which culminated in the building of the Croft Chapel in 1805 for which he provided the land.
When there was a split in the Battle congregation, Sinnock remained with the fifteen representatives of the original Baptist Church and services were frequently held in his house. This group flourished and in 1821 a new meeting house called Zion Chapel was built on land given by Sinnock
