Chris,
Many thanks for the information on the Sellens baptisms in Mountfield and the information on Richard Sinnock.  The information is most helpful.

I suspect that the John Sellens that was christened in 1791 later married Mary Holman and then emigrated to the US.  The only thing that makes me doubt that this is the correct John Sellens was the fact that John and Sarah Sellens had two children names John.  That is unusual (but not unheard of).  It could be that the first John had died or that there were two seperate John and Sarah Sellens in the Mountfield area at that time.

With respect to Richard Sinnock, the fact that the memoirs were linked to the Sargent family helps me link him to some other individuals but I still can't link him to other Sinnocks.

Regards

Chris

Thank you for your help and time.
The information you have found has helped to clarify things,

Just a shame that they didn't record surnames at that time.

MANY thanks Chris for taking the time to help me with my request.  Even though you didn't find a great deal it has helped clarify a few things for me that I would never have had the opportunity to do from Sydney, Autralia, where I live.

Chris,

Many thanks indeed for your efforts - mine was rather a speculative query, so I'm not that surprised there wasn't anything to find, but I'm extremely grateful that you went to such lengths to try to help me and so many others.

Hi Clara

Just been on to FreeBMD and found the following

Births Dec Quarter 1872
~~~~~~~~
BOYS  Albert George     Lewes  2b 172
Will see if I can locate the exact place under the Lewes Reg dist - no, it still says Lewes; but that covers Alciston as well.
Perhaps they were non conformist, or perhaps they never baptized their children.   Was he the first born, did mum go home to her mum for the baby and possible baptism?
I notice from the 1881 census Albert is listed as Grandson of Elizabeth Stephens, that has got to be on his mothers side, it cant be his grandmother on his fathers side because she would be a BOYS as well.
Hi Chris, sorry that I haven't responded to your earlier post (not having been online for a bit).
I have a feeling that Albert George Boys was the illegitimate son of Caroline Boys (she was working in London as a cook, think she might have come home to have her baby, then returned to London to die of consumption.... speculation at the present.... ) I know that he was the grandson of Elizabeth Stephens (nee Hastings, first marriage Boys)
Clara
ps thanks again for your help and interest....
