Much appreciated your offer Chris.

could you possibly look for the following.

Jane Barnes was born in Bexhill c.1807 and she married John Dann 6/12/1839 in Brede
Jane had one son illegitimately, Samuel John Barnes c.1835 Brede and then another after marriage, Elias Dann c.1842 in Brede (baptised 25/9/1842, Brede)

I'm really looking for a baptism of Samuel and possibly a baptism of Jane to find her parents names?

Many thanks

David

Hi there David

No baptism in Bexhill between 1803 and 1810 for Barnes surname

May 22nd 1835, Samuel John Barnes, son of John & Jane, Labourer
Sept 25th 1842, Elias, son of John & Jane, Labourer

Surprising, but thats what the transcript of the Brede registers said

Hope it helps

Hi Chris,

I would like to accept your generous offer for a look up if I am not too late.

Some time ago kind rootschatters found a marriage for me for Thomas Walker and Sarah Raper, who I believed were the parents of my GG grandmother Frances Walker. The marriage was on 7/3/1835 in Etchingham, and the licence was granted on 6/3/1835 in the Archdeaconry of Lewes  -  SRS26. Against Sarahs name the index said otsp ( no father, mother or guardian.

I have the family together in 1851 & 1841 and later have Frances marriage in Wilts, but now I have finally been able to get a copy of Frances birth cert ( reg as Fanny to confuse me ) it shows her mother as Ann Walker nee Raper. All other details match.

Its possible Sarah was Sarah Ann or Ann Sarah, but all records I have show her as Sarah, so I was hoping that there may be some additional info on the licence to help resolve it. Sarah was born Rochford Essex, and I have also requested a baptism look up on the Essex board but no results yet.

Hope its not too much trouble

Nashua

Hi there Nashua

I found a transcription of the marriage just as you have written it above, but was unable to add anything to that.

Apologies for not being able to help you further

Hi,

I have searched on the GRO indexes for the following marriage with no luck.

I would be grateful if you could look it up in the parish registers during your forthcoming trip.

Marriage took place between 1867 and 1870 in either Friston or Uckfield, although pretty sure it would be Friston.

Groom: William (Willie) Simmons
Bride: Elizabeth Cooley
Brides Father: James Cooley

Many Thanks

SuzyWoo

Hi Suzy

Unfortunately, the register transcripts on the open shelves at the record office only went up to 1837 for Friston i.e. 1530 - 1837

So unfortunately, I was not able to find the information you required

Sorry

hi, Chris,
i am also interested in the info. about William Verrall 1804 Alfriston please, thanks!

Jennifer (Mark and i are in contact)

Hi Jennifer

No Verrall surnames listed in bapt between 1800 and 1812 in Alfriston.

Seems the only entry is a marriage in 1640 of Joan Verrall to Thomas Stone.

Sorry

Hi Chris  :)

If you have time  (???), I would be grateful if you could look up the birth register for ALBERT GEORGE BOYS born in Alciston in 1872.

I'm interested in checking who his parents were if poss.

Many thanks for your kind offer!

Clara   :)

Hi there Clara

Although there were nearly 60 baptisms of BOYS children between 1813 and 1900 in alciston, but not one of them was named Albert George

The only parents having children around 1872 were:
Eli Stephen Boys and Eliza, Labourer or
George Boys and Harriett Louisa, Lime Burner

Could the parents of Albert be one of those two couples

Hi Chris,

I would like to take advantage of your offer again to look in the Sussex Record Office if you can manage it.

Auction Book - ref BUR2/1/19 date Dec 1852 Jun 1853
page116, Berwick, Blacksmith's Shop: wheelwright's and blacksmith's shops (late White) 1853

Best regards,
kiwi.

Hi again Kiwi

This is what it says in the notebook - this time written in pen in a nice clear hand.

Sale of Property in the Parish of Berwick, Sussex at the Star Hotel, Lewes, Sussex by order of the Attornyees of Mr Henry White, Blacksmith – June 7th 1853

A small freehold Estate consisting of Dwelling House in 2 tenements, Wheelwright shops attached, Blacksmiths shop, Cow lodge, and about 1acre 1 rod and 14 perches of Land with one lease on the Tye ?(Tythe)

Not Sold, value unknown

Well, you now have a description of where he lived, but it looks as though the next owner had problems in making ends meet

Hope it helps

Hi All

And finally, I have come to the end of posting replies to your 22+ queries and looking at the clock, I think it is time for bed.  Again it has taken me a lot longer than I thought it would to post the answers (2 and 1/2 hours) but it was worth it.

Am hoping to go back to the record Office in Mid January, so keep your eyes peeled for the next 'Record Office Day'

Goodnight for now
