COMPLETED THANKS Johnson family in America after 1891
« on: Friday 27 October 06 06:05 BST (UK) »
Hi folks,

I'm trying to find when and where William Harry JOHNSON and possibly wife Amelia Allen nee PEACOCK went after leaving England.

William Harry Johnson born 1853 Cheshire
married Amelia in 1887
Amelia Allen nee PEACOCK born about 1848 Lancashire

They were in Lancashire in 1891 census.
They did own a winter home in Algiers at some stage after that I believe. Does anyone know what information is available in Algiers? I think she died there about 1901.

In 1910 at least one son was in New Mexico? or at least some family was so I've been told.
If anyone can post any us census entries for this group it would be muchly appreciated.

William and Amelia had 2 sons. (and Orme was added to the surname at some stage due to Johnson being so common)

William Henry Orme-Johnson 1884
Edmund Allen Orme-Johnson 1886

William became a deputy sheriff in 1904 in the White Oaks area in Lincoln County so I'm told.
Can anyone find any material to back this up at all??

William and Edmund bought a large cattle ranch and started a large steel fabrication plant in El Paso.

Suggestions where to look next muchly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Lilygirl.

Hi there. I have William Orme-Johnson in El Paso in the 1930 census.

Orme-Johnson, William H, head, rents, $40/month, owns a radio, 47, 24 when he married, can read, born in England, year of immigration 1904, a machinist and owns his own shop.
Wife Edna is 47, born in Kansas, father born in NY, mother in Illinois.
Children: Betty, 21, teacher; Helen, 20, stenographer, William H Jr., 18, Dorothy, 16, Ruth, 14, all born in New Mexico.

In 1920, they are in El Paso, William owns his home with a mortgage,  and they have a servant, Marie Santiesteban.

I can't find them in the 1910 census. But now I think I am on to something. William Jr. died in 1988 in Texas. Edmund died in 1979 in Texas and I think I have found a living relative. I will PM you with that information.

Hi
Came across your old messages by accident. Assume you are from Australia?
My wife is the great grand daughter of James Henry Johnson, the coal mine owner. Assume you know of his sons skating successes?
Did you receive information from Lauranne re the Orme-Johnsons in the States. Do you know of the living OJs in Florida and Arizona?
I have been researching the family for some years. What is your connection?
Look forward to hearing from you
Regards
David
