My Lyle family go back to 1823, Scotland, but they didn't go south of the border.

See my entry on the  bbc website familyhistory, in answer to Lyle.

Hi,

As a child, I was told that The Lyle Hill in Greenock, Renfrewshire was named after the Lyle of Tate and Lyle, who was apparently a local man.  There was a T&L sugar refiners in Greenock until maybe 15 years ago.

I suggest you get in touch with the Watt Library in Greenock at http://www.inverclyde.gov.uk/Libraries/index.php?module=article&view=13&MMN_position=11:1:4
where I am sure they will be able to help you with some background information.

Sugar was a big business in Greenock, raw sugar being shipped from the Caribbean to Greenock.  As well as Tate & Lyle, there was also a Walker's Sugar refinery in the centre of town.

There is a church in Barbados named St. Johns, up on one of the highest points in Barbados.  The churchyard had several graves of tates and Lyles, it was run by a minister named John Wesley who was the son of a duke I believe.  White walls inside with dark dark wood for the pews and the organ.  A lot of shady areas outside very pretty.  Worth a visit if you can ever get there.

Sorry but i cannot remember the names on the tombstones there were quite a few.  about 20 or so.  Mostly Tate.

Hello
Do you know if the Employee Records are available anywhere of Employees of Tate & Lyle, Love Lane, Liverpool. My father was employed there from 1922 to the day he died in May 1964.
Thanks
Pat
