Hi Theresa, I looked at the Griffiths Valuation of Ireland for Antrim there were only 4 Conkeys there but it looks like your Joseph was one of them did he have a sister or relation named Rachel?

Rachel Conkey Dunmurry, Drumbeg parish, county  Antrim.

Joseph Conkey Dunmurry, Drumbeg parish, county Antrim.

Samuel Conkey  North-East division Carrickfergus Parish, county antrim.

James Conkey Portglenone Road, Ballymena Kirkinriola Parish, county Antrim.

You could check the Drumbeg Parish records to see if you can get anything.

Hi Colette,
Just found marriage cert for Joseph Conkey and a Rachel Burrows, they are both teachers on the form town land of dunmurry. Joseph was a widower. Unfortunately it doesn't give his age.

hi Theresa, I wonder who his first wife was? if you could find that cert it might help with the age if the first marriage cert says full age then you know he was over 21.  What was Josephs dads name on the marriage cert to Rachel Burrows?

Hi Colette,
Unfortunately on his sons birth  and marriage certs it doesn't give their mothers name. Joseph fathers name was Thomas Conkey he was a weaver. I have found listed two wills for Joseph and Rachel Conkey they died within 7 months of each other in 1898. There is also a J Conkey listed in Dunmurry at the same time in 1880 but he is a Postmaster he is not mentioned on the1909 street directory whether this is the same person i don't know. Joseph married 3 days after his son William Alexander 10/01 1862.

Bassett's Directory for 1888 also lists Jos. Conkey as Post Master for Dunmurry. Names listed under School National are A Stewart and Miss E Sloan.

Theresa I found a Thomas John Conkey born 25th of October 1866 to a William Alexander Conkey and Maria Edgar, the Birth place was Comber in county Down. Is he your Josephs Grandson?
And in the Ulster Historical society data base there is a William Alexander Conkey born in County Down in 1898 a decendant maybe?

there are also another 5 children born to this couple

Joseph Conkey 18th of July 1864 county Down
he must have died as the name is later repeated.

next was Thomas John 1866 who i mentioned at the start of my message

William Conkey 29th of April 1869, county down, he must have died as name later repeated

Second Joseph Conkey born 27th of may 1870, County Down.

Second William Conkey 8th of November 1872, Belfast

Francis McCammon Conkey 4th of June 1875  just says Ireland

and all these names were taken from Birth or Christening records for the locality named in the record.

Any use to you?
