Charles Howard
« on: Thursday 26 October 06 12:14 BST (UK) »
Charles, born in 1844 (Cavenham in Suffolk) was a Yeast Seller in Chester le Street, Durham.  He married a lady called Margaret who hailed from West Auckland.

I am trying to find Margaret's Maiden name.  Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Hi Sadsack,  :)

It appears Margaret was the second wife of Charles, therefore a later marriage than some might anticipate.
In 1881 he was married to Sarah, who, it appears died in between 1881 and 1891.
The most likely death being in Auckland, Jun. qtr. 1884
The only marriage that would qualify and fit in with the census on FreeBMD is:

Marriage - Dec. qtr. 1884
Easington, Vol.10a page 501
Charles Howard - Margaret Mewse

If this is correct Charles didn't hang around before tying the knot again!
You can double check all this info. on Ancestry to confirm, their version is complete.

Do you have access to the census returns prior to 1901?
If not we can help.

Cheers,

Pels   :)

Thanks for the help Pels, it has been of great value to me.  I do have access to the Census' online as well as having them on disk, thanks for the offer.  I would appreciate a bit more help if you can.

I have tried using free bmd for a marriage lookup for Robert Burt b 1845 in Easington Lane, Hetton (he too married a Margaret).  I don't really understand what the information is telling me but I think it says he married Margaret Richardson and his sister Frances married William Richardson (brother and sister marrying brother and sister).  I don't know whether it is me being thick or I really am reading it correctly.  I would appreciate it if you would have a look for Robert and Margaret please.

Thank you again

Hello again,  :)

I see what you mean?
No, I don't think you are being thick - not unless it is catching!
I have had a quick look on the census returns and I see Robert did indeed have a sister called Francis. Are you sure William had a sister called Margaret, if so it does look like they all married each other.
This must be what they mean when they talk about keeping it in the family.  ;)
Just had a thought, if we check the 1871 census it might make it a bit clearer.

Pels  :)

Hi Pels,

Thanks again for your help.  I have sorted it, I think.  Frances Burt married William Richardson (found them on 1871 Census) and Robert Burt married Margaret Richardson on the same day (brother and sister marrying brother and sister).
