CLIMPSON Family
« on: Tuesday 24 October 06 17:12 BST (UK) »
I wonder if some-one could please help me.
I have a Jemima Climpson bn abt 1834. I have found her in Marylebone London from 1861 and she puts her birthplace on  the census as Chesham. I have searched the 1841 census for Chesham Bucks but cannot find her, her Fathers name is Joseph Climpson on her Marriage cert.
The only other thing is that on the 1851 census for Marylebone there is a Jemima Clemston. ( to be honest the original image looks like Climpson to me )working as a servant and she states her birthplace as Hammersham ( Amersham? ) Bucks. The age is about correct but I can not find Jemima in either Chesham or Amersham in 1841.
Has anyone come across a Jemima Climpson with a Father Joseph please.
Thanks
Kes

Hi Kes

In Amersham in 1841 there is a Mary Climpson, 44, described as Ind, I think - the image is difficult! She has 7 children, including Jimima aged 8. No sign of Joseph the father, but there is a son Joseph aged 10.

Now, they have all been transcribed as Clempson, and Jemima/Jimima has been transcribed as James!!

1841  HO107/45/6/7/8

Looks good, doesn't it!  :D

Cheers
Koromo

Hi Koromo.
Thank you so much, I do think this must be her. I had a look at the image and I can see that it is 'Jimima' And her age is in the female column so how the transcriber made it James is a mystery.
Maybe her Father Joseph was dead, this would not be the first marriage cert where that fact was not mentioned, Jemima could not read or write so I do not suppose she knew what was written.
Thank you again for your help, I was pulling my hair out!
Regards

26 Sep 1815      FANNY   CLIMPSON   F   JOSEPH   CLIMPSON   MARY
28 Aug 1817      LIOUSE   CLIMPSON   F   JOSEPH   CLIMPSON   MARY
11 Oct 1819      SARAH   CLIMPSON   F   JOSEPH   CLIMPSON   MARY
11 Dec 1821      WILLIAM   CLIMPSON   M   JOSEPH   CLIMPSON   MARY

I have been transcribing the Amersham marriages and births and have these children christened in the Amersham meeting house. It is complete to 1837 and is on Freereg. Maybe they changed thier religion.

I have the feeling that those are the children from a second Joseph and Mary Climpson living in Amersham at the same time. On the 1841 census, Louisa is at home with her parents and her fairly new husband, John Rowles.

You would think that they might all be related, though.

I think you may well be right. There are two Mary Climpsons on 1841 living in Amersham. The second one was with husband Joseph and living in Amersham.

Thank you both for your help.
I looked at the 1851 census for 'JIMIMA'S' brothers from the info you sent Koromo and I am almost certain this is the right family. Two of her brothers are in the Marylebone/Paddington area same as Jemima in 51.  and the third is in Chesham lodging with a family. I looked at the free B.M.Ds and there was a Mary CLIMPSON died in Amersham in 1844, no birth date was given for her but if it was their Mother that would account for them all moving away between 1841 and 51, I will have to send for her death cert.
Lincslass, when you suggested the other Climpson family you said they were in the meeting house registers? Would that be the Baptist Lower meeting house in Amersham? If so can I ask where you found that info please as my Ainsworths also came originally from Amersham and I have been unable to find any baptist records at all for the family apart from one of my G.G.Grandfathers sisters on the I.G.I and John Ainsworths and Dorcas Beamsley's marrriage on Ancestry.com
I would love to be able to find any other Brothers and Sisters G.G.Grandfather  might have had.
Thanks again both of you for all your help
