How can i find Maiden name?
« on: Monday 23 October 06 15:24 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Back again with another question hoping you can help as you have done in the past.

I am trying to find the maiden name of Clara Wilkes as i dont know when they married i cant send for the cert which would tell me is there another way to find out?

The info i have is:
1891 census RG12/2245 folio 55 page 10
53 Penfold Street, Darlaston.
George WILKES aged25 an ironworker
wife Clara 24
john 2
phebe 2mths
all born Darlaston

I have found a possible marriage 1988 Q4 Walsall Vol 6b Page 1039
I dont know of a way to cross check it without the maiden name.

Fingers crossed Dave

Hi - if you look on FreeBMD or Ancestry's copy of FreeBMD, you can click to see who else is on the Page in question.

Of the 2 females, Clara Owen would seem to be the one !

Oops - that's me blushing  :-[  :-[  :-[ - How come I didn't see Clara   :P  :P

Hi Dave,

When you find a marriage, it gives you a volume number and a page. If you click on the page number, it should show you the possible spouses.

In this case, Frances Davies or Mary Ann Cooper  :-\

Back to the drawing board
.

http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ has a great search facility, where you can enter everything you know - in this case
Surname Wilkes
First name George
Spouses maiden name : (blank)
Spouse first name: Clara

It will only search fro marriages where a Clara is on the same page as a George Wilkes. (Keeping in mind however that FreeBMd is not 100% complete)

Looks like ScRoppers has got it sorted for you, but I was going to say that another way of checking would be to get the birth cert of one of the children, which would give mums maiden name.

(But I'm not as clever as ScRoppers, so I didnt think of checking on the freeBMD page no!)
