1851 census lookup please - Hinckley
« on: Monday 23 October 06 10:09 BST (UK) »
Hi,

Could someone look up this family for me on the 1851 census please? Someone kindly found them on the index for me but I would like information re: occupation, place of birth etc.

Cox's Alley, Hinckley

William LEESON c1818
Hannah (wife) c1818
John (c1839)
Elizabeth c1841
Maria c1843
Sarah c1845
Emma c1847
Eliza c1847

Bond Street, Hinckley

William LEESON c1787
Elizabeth (wife) c1791

I'm not sure whether the next family will be on the census - they didn't appear on the index I was given:

Henry LEESON c1813
Mary (wife) c1816
Mary Ann c1851

Thanks in anticipation,
Maggie  :)

I just can't see Henry & Mary  :-\

There's a family with same names, same ages at Leicester St Margaret but I had to rule them out - they are still around later  :P

Thanks again Tati,

I've now been able to find loads of Leesons in Hillmorton Warwickshire Parish Records following on from William Leeson's birthplace which you found.  Could you just double check the birthplace for Elizabeth please?  I can't find anywhere called Arboro on my map - I suppose it could be a tiny hamlet  ::)

Henry Leeson is proving elusive  :-\ I have him on the 1871, 1881 and 1891 but can't find him on others!!

Thanks again for your help - it's much appreciated.

I can see Henry in 1861 at Hinckley:
RG9/2260 90 15
Hinckley - Tan Yard

Henry Leeson, head, 48, Ag lab
Mary, wife, 44, Seamer
Mary Ann, dau, 10, scholar
Henry, son, 7
Walter, son, 3
Emma dau, 7 mo

All born Hinckley

I'm afraid the 1851 does say Arboro' for Elizabeth...

Wow, Tati - thanks for finding Henry on the 1861 for me I didn't think he was there and thanks for looking at the place name again.  I shall investigate the place name further later  :)

Thanks again for all of your help Tati - it's much appreciated  :)

Hi Tati,

Just thought you might like to know that I think the name of that place might be Harbury in Warwickshire  :)  I have come to this conclusion through deduction - trying to think of places which sound similar - I then looked at the Parish Records and found some Knibbs living in Harbury - Knibbs was the maiden name of Elizabeth Leeson  :)  I couldn't find an Elizabeth Knibbs' baptism but I think I might be on the right track  ;)  I'm reckoning that Harbury might sound like Arboro' when said in a 19th century Warwickshire accent  ;D  But there again I might be completely on the wrong track - that's been known ... several times in fact  :-[

Just to add to your confusion
There's Narborough
and Market Harborough as well.
