Hi, Jake...long time no see!!!!
Might have him here, on the 1901, working in SHEFFORD for the Knowltons
( down as Ernest J.)
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census/DisplayPagePanb.jsp?id=85811&highlight=41

The stated year of immigration matches, although year a bit out... J.J.

Checked here to see if he enlisted in WW1, but none match up...there is however one signup with no database information which still could be his. Perhaps you could write to see if there is more on this one Ernest... J.J.
( just use link oline help for where to write for the info )

Oh, You'll have to forgive me, Jake...there is one other Ernest on the 1911 who matches your dates even better, as he says born June 1883 and also immigrated in 1894....but hadn't seen him on the 1901 so missed him...must apologise
http://automatedgenealogy.com/census11/Test16.jsp?id=102549

He is a boarder in Brome / Potton Township / works at a sawmill....

Boarding with a George willard ( bottom household 22 )

so will look closer now at 1901...

Home children resources & topics here on rootschat....
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,148045.0.html

Look up volunteers in Quebec... but Protestant files in Brome are only up to
1879 and it's hard to guess where he may have married, anyway....and they
need Parish or township info before they begin. I wonder if you asked in
general if there are any volunteers that specialize in Sherbrooke home children
research? http://www.rootsweb.com/~canqc/lookupsa-c.html

Oh, my eyes aren't working now, says 1897 not 1894 for the second entry above,
so only the first one matches for immigration but not for age...
You gave other rootschat entries on this family I have found, also...( My memory is going, but may have worked on one of them.)
Saw that you thought you had parents for them on the 1891, but no ernest? You  thinking he was abandoned between marriages, then?  How did you come to find out about Ernest, from the CEF papers on Frederick?  Wonder if there were even more children, then...before the next marriage....

Hello Jake

My grandfather was a home child and listed as domestic on the census. So looks like your man.

You might try contacting researchers searching Barnes listed on this website:
http://www.rootsweb.com/~qceastwn/bb.html

There are two listed. Maybe there will be a connection to your Ernest.
