I dont know whether you can help but my information is very sketchy.

I am very frustrated at not being able to find out details of my ancestors who emigrated to South Australia. All I know is that the family name was Nicholls George
Nicholls Clara Mary
Children: Mary, Ellen, Alfred George, Kate, Ruth
Frank Quarrell also emigrated on the same ship having married Mary prior to departure.

Departure Port was Southampton around 1926 (dont know the name of the ship unfortunately!)

to a port in South Australia, they settled in Renmark

Sorry this is so sketchy but Im clutching at straws now.

Hiya

Ive planned a visit to the National Archives on Monday , you have good timing requesting this :) I will go through and see what I can find for you.

If you PM me with your email I can reply through there instead of posting your details here :)

Ill also go through births/deaths for you as well.

Hello Shanko

If possible I would like to take you up on your offer. My grandparents emigrated to Australia in 1951 and settled in Adelaide they were Achibald McWilliam and Elizabeth Clelland Liddell Munn and they brought their children Margaret(my mother) Archibald and John(otherwise known as Jack) with them. Archibald senior came back to the U.K as did my mother as did Archibald junior. My mother married in 1961 in Birmingham and her father is shown on her marriage certificate as being a resident of Aberdeen. According to my stepbrother Archibald junior was killed in a forklift accident in Lincoln. What I am trying to discover is what became of Archibald senior and John(Jack) I am wondering if Archibald senior returned to Australia. I know that Elizabeth died there as I have found a reference to her on the South Australia Genealogy & Heraldry website as shown below.

1. Surname: McWILLIAM
Given name(s): Elizabeth Cleland Liddle
Date: 7 Apr 1996
Source: Deceased Estates
2. Surname: McWILLIAM
Given name(s): Elizabeth
Date: 10 Apr 1996
Source: Cemetery Index
3. Surname: McWILLIAM
Given name(s): Elizabeth
Date: Advertiser 13-4-1996
Source: Newspaper Deaths

I was wondering if Elizabeth's obituary gives any pointers. I have tried to access it through the Adelaide Advertisers newstext service but can,t find it.
The reason I suspect that Archibald returned is that I also found the following on the same website. And I am wondering if this is the same Archibald.

1. Surname: McWILLIAM
Given name(s): Archibald
Date: 10 Mar 1970
Source: Cemetery Index

I would be most grateful for any help you can give me.

Best Regards

Hi I wonder if you can help me..... im trying to trace an Edith Fulford born in 1898 in Shirebrook, West Riding Yorkshire who moved to Australia sometime between 1948 - 1960 but more likely to be early on in that period than late.
I have an address where they lived in Australia in 1950s/60s (i think):

59 Balaclava Road, Eastwood, Nr Sydney, New South Wales.

Edith was one of about 10 sisters and 1 brother - the rest stayed in England. Edith wanted to take my mum (Margaret Williams) with her cos apparently she couldnt have children of her own - but of course my mums mum (who was Edith's sister) wouldnt let her. Thats how i know they moved after 1948 cos thats when my mum was born.

Anyway, Edith married someone called Bob and they had a child called Edith born in Australia - probably Sydney. They wouldve had some more kids out there aswell.
Edith (older) kept in touch with her sister Ivy (my grandma) after she moved and we have letters and photos. We have names of all the people on the photos but we're not 100% about who they are in relation to each other.
I have one photo of Edith (the elder) b.1898, Edith younger and a girl called Sharon who looks agewise like she's Edith (the younger)'s daughter. I have other photos of more girls - they all look the right age to be sisters - but you never know...If that is the case then Sharon's sisters would be Christine, Ann (maybe - but she may be no relative at all) and Judith. Christine's the eldest, then Sharon, then Judith is the youngest. I also have a photo of all of them: Christine, Ann, Sharon, Judith, Edith (younger) with a baby (about 2yrs) sat on her knee - (Edith elder had prob died by this time). This baby is Susanne but whether she is Edith (younger)'s or Christine's is anybody's guess.

Two of the photos say 1959 on the back - although one of the dates has been altered to 69. The three sisters Christine, Sharon and Judith look about 12,10 and 8yrs respectively.

In addition heres some info on Edith (elder) mum and dad back in England:
Ediths mum and dad were Harriet and James William Fulford (goes under name of William/Bill more often than james). Harriet and James were both born in 1874 in Rotherham and Darfield (West Riding Yorkshire) respectively. Harriets maiden name may well have been Morton but am not sure about that.

Basically i dont know where to start tracing these people and am open to any advice or suggestions.  I was wondering if i could scan the photos and send them to a newspaper in Sydney or something - someone would recognise them if they were related - theyre very distinctive photos.
Nobody's ever attempted to trace them before - they just disappeared into the wide blue yonder probably after old Edith died - and it would be amazing if i could find them for my family over here....
Apologies for the length of this message - thought the more info the better.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Alison

Hi Shanko,

This is a long shot but next time you are looking can you see if you can find anything on my Grandfather please. Sorry the info I have is very sketchy as everyone who would remember him has passed on (I left it too late to make it easy :-).

The guy I am looking for is

Walter Reynolds
dob - 4 Nov 1894 in Cambourne, Cornwall.
Parents - Charles Reynolds/Frances Bunt.
Married - Lilian Maud Tippett (Adopted, Born Keast) 9 Dec 1922 in Redruth, Corwall.
Occupation - Tin Miner below ground.
Birth of Son - Robert Charles Reynolds (My Father) 28 May 1923.

From here it all goes dark. Sometime after birth of my father (May 1923) he emigrated to Australia and died before his wife Lilian and my father could join him.
I assume he went out as a miner but this is by no means certain.
I would guess he left UK before my Father was 10 (i.e. before 1933) as he new him but only had fleeting mempries of him.
I have no idea when he died but the story has it that he died in a mining accident but this may well be a family embelishment as I have no proof whatsoever.
I don't even know for certain where he went in Aus.
Sorry it's not much to go on but if you could have a look to see if there are any references to Walter Reynolds that may give me a lead it would be greatly appreciated.
Regards
Clive

Cornwall: Reynolds, Tippett, Keast.
Devon/Wales: Tatchell, Morgan.
Essex: Purrott, Young.

Hi ya,
Um, I was wondering if you could do some searches for me, The name is Bras(s)ington, George, his wifes name was Susan(nah) Davi(e)s, and he had two kids while in SA, Phoebe B.1838 D. 1838, and Caroline B.1839.
BY APRIL 1841 they had returned to NSW, but were in SA from 13 Nov 1837 (this is the date they were married, so presuming ;) they knew each other before marriage, maybe they had been there longer, or had (?run away) come from NSW as a couple. I say run away because it is possible they were both convicts, and she may not have had her TL/COF.
I have NO idea how they got to or from SA.
I appreciate your time,
Thank you,
Liz
