sargeant family colchester
« on: Friday 20 October 06 17:26 BST (UK) »
Hi ..Thomas Henry Sargeant born 1877/80 Colchester. He joined the Royal Engineers, dont know when, but he married an Irish girl when he was serving at the Curragh Camp Kildare in 1906. His Family came from Ardleigh and Colchester. He was baptised at Colchester Barracks in the 1920s. His fathers name was also Thomas Henry born Ardleigh, mothers name Sarah Ward. Cannot find any wedding registration for his parents. His father was a coach builder in Colchester.   I have been trying a long time to find information about the Sargeant family, but have come up with nothing.  If anyone can help me, i would be truly grateful.  Tarina

Can you just clarify  - do you mean he was born in 1877/80 and that he was baptised in 1920's , i.e in his 50's?

Have you looked for his birth in the birth indexes, currently free to search on ancestry?

have you got them on the (1881) census - or are you just focussing on finding a marriage ?

Thos Snr is widowered in 1881 - 'Gentleman, formerly Coach Builder'

In 1871, in Colchester, theres just him 'Living on Property' and wife Mary Ann, born 1833, Nayland.

She seems to die a Sargeant (if she's the one) in Colchester but I agree I'm not 100% sure we will find an actual marriage   :-\

Hi ..the only info I have got is that he married in 1906 aged 25, he was baptised before 1927, I have found a Thomas Henry on the 1881 census, but the dates dont coincide, thats why I am not sure if it is him. thanks
