Alfred Holt
« on: Tuesday 17 October 06 22:56 BST (UK) »
Can anyone tell me whether the Alfred Holt (born c. 1830 in Liverpool) living at 'Crofton', Sudley Road, Garston in the 1891 census is the Alfred Holt that founded the 'Blue Funnel' shipping line?

Also, whether Alfred Holt had any connection to the Isle of Wight.

My interest is actually in one of the household's domestic servants, Mary Anne (Polly) Pike, who is listed as a lady's maid. Polly retired to Totland Bay in the I. of W,  & we don't know why she went there. (She was born in Derby in 1848).
Cockeram, Kirk, Leivers, Salt, Seal, Whysall.

Couple of  this to note/suggest :

(a) google for info about the "Blue Funnel" line to see if it matches the one you have in census.

(b) give the census ref if you want anyone to look at the pages/people. Search by street address is not practicable (or possible) for most
