The BBC timewatch program - the voyage of the Lady Juliana - is apparently coming to ABC TV - I caught an image of an ad this evening - but missed when it was on

Last week I finally got the video that my M-in-Law posted from the UK, with this episode and all the others of the Time Watch series.  I think the Lady Juliana episode was very interestingly done, and was very informative...my female convict came out in 1817, but I would imagine that the conditions then were pretty much the same as those first women had to endure.  I always shake my  head in amazement at the strength of my ancestors' resolve, but my convicts are the ones who amaze me the most  :)

I saw it last year - a lovely RCer sent it to me  ;D  worth a look. Our convict lady was on the Lady Juliana. Arrived here pregnant - which seemed to be the case with many of them. I believe they were perhaps better treated on that voyage than later - but sexual selection of partners by sailors was considered the right of every sailor.

please excuse  my ignorance  but  what  is  the  name of  the book  and  author  please  I have a  seventh cousin  down  the GoldCoast   who  has  helped  me  a  good deal  with my Edsall side  and  it  does sound  like a  rather  different yet nice sort  of  gift for her

Its called "The Floating Brothel"  by Sian Rees - it is about life aboard the Lady Juliana which sailed from England in 1789 bearing a cargo of convicts destined for Botany Bay.

Use google - you'll find lots about it
